Did you know that the Mass state motto is "Ense petit placidam, sub libertate quietem," which means "By the sword we seek peace, but peace only under liberty"?

Kind of tough, I think, but it fits well with "Live free or die"

I find it annoying that either side uses the notion of "you haven't been in war, so you can't support/object to it".

That's like saying because you haven't molested kids, you aren't qualified to comment on the Michael Jackson case.

How about this... if you've never hiked in Yosemite, then you have no right to comment on the preservation in that land.

Or, you've never owned a house, so you have no right to an opinion on the recent Supreme Court rulings.

A number of health conditions kept me out of service, but I give blood and contribute my support in other ways. But even if I hadn't, the right to free speech is all I need to be allowed to have a valid opinion on ANY topic (as it does for you).

I'm down with that... You don't REALLY support the "war" as vapidly as others..
You seem to have an open mind...

But you'd think the ONE guy that actually was in a war - Powell - Bush would listen to...

Actually he didn't listen to his dad either and his Dads a vet...

I supported the troops by helping my family take care of my brothers kids while he was in Iraq and Afgahnistan...

And by taking a 9 month position with Walter Reed Army Hospital - shoring up technical processes that are used in Iraq and Afgahnistan.
I got paid but not as much as I'm used to... The images of the poor soldiers that I saw at WRAMC are burned into my brain... Maybe one of the reasons I'm so against this thing... Maybe I just don't have the stomache for it...
