If you're going up from the Greater Boston area to the Whites, what resources - reports, sites-are you using to get a grip on the weather. And once you're close to your trailhead, which one(s) for up-to-the-minute info?
thanx

Mt Washington Observatory is the best resource, in my opinion, since they have a forecast specifically for the higher summits and deal directly with mountain, as opposed to valley, weather, as well as always providing a discussion of the weather as well.
Obs website

They also post a forecast on a recording with telephone number every morning, and that's what I use closer: 1 (603) 356-2137, Press 1

The other resource I use is good old NOAA weather radio. My car receives it, as do my FRS radios. It's not as specific to the mountains but they do report the current conditions on Mt Washington which is an indicator of just how bad it can be.

As for up to the minute forecasts once you are in the whites 95.3 is the local information station and they update summit and valley weather conditions twice an hour.

I'll use the MWO & the Weather Channel to get an idea of weather. I'm also carrying a fair amount of gear just in case. I'll have local radio on but by then I have a fair idea what I'm expecting.

If I am in the area of Pinkham or Crawford Notch, I'll stop in there too. How much I check also depends on my destination, a trip up Tecumseh or Waumbek isn't the same as a trip in the Northern presidentials
