Hi all, just wanted tell everyone how insane today was. not only was the pow way deeper than I was expecting, the weather was crazy their was a lot of people at Jay. the conditions were near blizzard like with heavy accumulating and blowing and drifting of snow.

I showed up at the tram side parking lot to see huge drifts and cars and gigantic buses getting stuck in them. the only upper mountain lifts open were the red chair and the jet triple, so there were some pretty big lines. at first I was bummed b/c it was a mad house and I hate crowds, I also had no real idea how much snow their was and I expected it to be really blown around and wind swept, I was almost happy I had to be at work in a hour and a half.

once I finally got to the top of the red chair I decided to take a short hike up to JFK and ski down to tram side which only had the metro running in hopes to escape the crowds for a little bit. I was not expecting to find waist-stomach deep pow with mind boggling face shots on every turn, but thats what happend, and here it was one of the busiest days of the year. now I was totally amped and trying to realize the serious fluff I just skied and now I was mad that I only had one maybe two runs left before work.

one of the cool things about today was the vibe in the lift lines and in the crowds, nobody really seemed to care about the long lines and everyone was happy. their were so many weekend warriors who have had to deal with horrible condtions this year, it finally paid off with a pow day of epic proportions.

I Imagine a few of you were at Jay this weekend, you couldn't have hit it much better. I would have waited in that long line all day if I had the chance. sunday should be even better with all of this non-stop hammering and a few less people.

Run of my life today in you-know-where. Skinned up at 4. Dropped in at 6:30 as the sun just busted out. Tits deep for the top half, subbed completely out in the guts of the you-know-what. Never really been completely under like that. Snow was so light and so deep. Northern VT is absolutly fantastic right now. Days like this are the reason I live here. Mansfield RULEZ!
Next 2 days off....

WOW JD, no screwin around, that sh*t must have been insanity I totally believe that it was up to your boobies. I went to you-know-where first thing this morning and was totally submerged, couldn't see most of the way down and had to cover my mouth/nose to keep from choking, nuts. I bet it was even better yesterday though since it was fluffier and hadn't settled at all, must have been sweet doing it at sundown too. it really doesn't get much better

As said in a trip report, Jay gets the snow but at the expense of having bad winds. At least they had two upper mountain lifts running. Can't complain about that IMHO.

Nice to hear some places got snow! I was at Wildcat this weekend which got nothing. Looks like Cannon got quite a bit though, hopefully the wind didn't blow it all off

yeah, I guess i'm just use to the wind and it doesn't really bother me too much as long as one upper mnt lift is open, that way with a short hike/skin I can get to pretty much anything, a lot of times I prefer it that way, its great for pow preservation. that being said their have been huge mobs of humanoids the past two days and I did notice most inbounds runs have been pretty well skied after I did my BC run this morning. the snow was also not as deep and fluffy today, which is usually the product the day after a light dry snow, it was still plenty deep though. JD's run must have been mind blowing yesterday.

That was this A.M. At 6:45 there were 7 people waiting to drop in. The top half was as good a run as I can remember. Free fall.

Pretty much all of the slackcountry runs from Smuggs got a ton of traffic this weekend. Absolutely insane crowds this weekend - I've never seen it so crowded. It's amazing how a little pow can bring out all the fair weather skiers ;).

We stay just off Mountain road at Stowe. The road was a veritable rush hour at 7:15AM - loong lines of cars. By 7:30 the Mansfield lot was half full, by 8:30 it was packed, cars lining the access roads. We had a long wait to get into traffic and I noted one pattern: most vehicles were pickups and SUVs with no-passenger white male drivers. (no friends on a powder day...) No suprise...

We got there at 11 on Sunday (decided to sleep in after a lot of pow and a long night Sat) and we had to park in a lot that I didn't even know existed and take a shuttle to the mountain.

On Sat all the lifts were running too, which wasn't the case at a number of other mountains. I hiked to Spruce and talked to some Stowe skiers who said that most lifts were on windhold. I can't even imagine how bad it would have been if Madonna was on windhold Sat.

Killington really is the best Mtn. in VT. No reason to go any further. It's got it all. I hear the back side is sick!

I don't think you're giving Kmart enough credit. It's the best mountain in the East, nevermind just VT.

I'm so glad I was at Whiteface. Wouldn't want any face shots, or snow to ruin my day.
