I just saw that Whaleback has already announced their last day of the season on Facebook - March 15. If you've planned to get there this season I guess you'd better do it!

They must not be into spring skiing ;)

Well I guess it could have been worse. They could have never opened!

Even for maximizing financial return that seems early doesnt it? Cant sell enough lift tickets to make it to March 22nd?

Whaleback hosts a snowmobile climb every yr at the end of March. I'd guess the revenue generated from this is more attractive than a final wknd of spring skiing.
I suppose it would be possible to open back up the following wknd but not sure what running lots of sleds all over the mtn would do to a likely thin base at that point.

I'm really glad to see that Whaleback opened back up this year. I hope they did well enough to return next year. It's too depressing to see a shuttered ski as all those cars drive by on the interstate. That's not the best advertising for the industry, even if it has been reality.

I will get the scoop tomorrow. They have always closed the 3rd week in March......I don't see it being different this year. Yes, I think they need the revenue from the hill climbs and such.

Simply put, no. They can't. They were BARELY able to open this year after incurring all the debt. They put all of their resources into making snow. When other mountains closed, they remained open. With limited terrain, yes. But they remained open all the same. This year has been a learning experience, I hope the kinks get worked out next year....
