If they can ski icy bump courses with two huge airs why would a groomed GS run that is icy scare them?

You do realize that what they use to "groom" a WC race course often has more in common with a Zamboni than a typical ski area snowcat.

Great thread, DHS! Skiers vs. Boarders was getting old. Pitting racers against bumpers...? Now that's good stuff. ;)

Perhaps because there's not another icy bump that will stop (or at least allow a redirection...) of the turn?

Making forced turns on an icy WC mogul field seems a lot more intimidating than scraping your way down a smooth WC downhill with properly sharpened edges. I don't think any bumper is arguing that WC bump skiers would be clocking Bode Miller times at Val d'Isere. At the same time, bump skiing is not about just making it to the bottom of the course. It's a judged event that requires a technique so radically different from what skiers are taught from day 1 that I'm fairly confident in claiming that no WC downhiller could even qualify in Olympic bump skiing. On the other hand, you have a 35 y/o professional violinist who started seriously training in 2010 qualifying for a multiple alpine events in Sochi. I suspect it would be even easier for a WC bump skier, who is on the snow 200+ days a year, to do the same thing, particularly given the fact that every professional skier (except maybe some park rats) has mastered basic alpine skiing technique.
