Only ski magazine I ever subscribed to was the one I got free as a bonus perk with my ASC bronze pass 2 years ago. I can't remember if it was Ski or Skiing .

Was not really impressed with it so I didn't renew. I find you get better ski articles and info online.

Powder...the skiers bible. Always find an interesting article or commentary...they had a great one pager in Nov or Dec about what goes through our minds when we're riding a lift by ourselves...totally touched on the vibe and soul of the sport. Oh wait, can I call it a sport anymore? Sorry Glen, its a sport. When that first issue of Powder hits my mailbox in August I drop everything, read it cover to cover and immerse myself in a white room daydream. Freeskier is a decent mag for the young...or young at heart skier. I think Skiing has made a comeback from where it was a few years ago...Ski is too full of Rolex, Range Rover, and Bogner ads for me to stomach it.

Freeskier.

Powder used to be better. Articles in powder used to be long, in depth, and cover almost as much non-ski related stuff (down days, bar nights) as ski related stuff. Now they seem to be only half a page to one page long, pick out one aspect about a ski experience, then end abruptly. I might have ADD, but it's not so bad that I can only read 6 paragraphs at a time.

I also like Couloir and Telemark Skier, but I don't even know if they still make Telemark Skier.

Personally my favorite is more of an industry trade magazine, SAM Info (Ski Area Management Information).

Not the "fluff" about the "secret" locals lines or locals bar, etc, etc, etc. Just plain and simple good old fashioned lifts, snowmaking, groomers, etc background info about how an area is really run on a day to day basis year round. Not the most exciting reading, but I do enjoy the business side of things and the views it gives

Hey, I might like to read this too...the ski area business is fascinating to me. How can I get a copy?

The other mags don't have much in them I enjoy other than the pretty pictures. At this time of year looking at those is more like punishment than enjoyment.

Goto saminfo.com and check it out. If you want to subscribe, with the number of posts you make here, you're obviously "in the business" just as an "online consultant"/"online publicist"! ;)

Do you know if this magazine will run again for the 07-08 season? I just looked it up online and it only talks about the 06-07 season. It looks like a good magazine, but I don't want to send money in if it does not continue.

I assume it will run again, they cashed my check (of course), the form said for the 07-08 season. Hopefully I won't be out $11.00.

I kind of like Skiing, but mostly because they sent me these:

Either way regardless of how generous the people are over at Skiing mag for sending me such wonderful skis free of charge, I read the Skiing mag more then the Ski mag. Despite subscribing to both of them.

I really liked Snowcountry / Mountain Sports & Living even though they have been gone since 1998, I still have alot of them and read through them now and then. I subscribe to Ski and Skiing and have them going back to 1984.

Do you live in one of those houses that have the hallways lined with magazines and newspapers? Hope we don't read about you perishing under an avalanch of ski mags!

I actually didn't send a letter in for those. It was part of the "Choose your top mountain, win a pair of skis" contest. All of a sudden I got a certified letter from an advertising company that said I potentially won a prize as a result of this contest.

My favorite is SnowEast.

It looks like it will be published for the 2007-2008 season, they finally have a website and are advertising the upcoming issues. Still waiting for my first copy though.

I was a Couloir reader. Couloir merged with Backcountry with the latter having the current name sake. The first combined issue was nice so I will continue to subscribe.
I also like Couloir and Telemark Skier, but I don't even know if they still make Telemark Skier.
With the merger into Backcountry, the Telemark magazine is being revived.

After two issues of the new Backcountry after having been a Couloir subscriber, I wish I had known about Backcountry sooner. Definitely enjoy Backcountry more than Couloir. Cleaner and nicer layout, lots of quick reads, and the section on the Chic Chocs was nice two. Only a one or two east segments in Couloir in over two years. With VT roots, it seems Backcountry has a bit more of a connection with the eastern scene. I am looking forward to carrying my subscription over to Backcountry.
