Might get over to Saddleback for 1/2day either Sat or Sun. Selling a pack to someone heading up to the Loaf...so might as well head over to see what Casablanca's all about.

Might be quite the weekend at the Institution if it all works out:

Friday afternoon/evening - a few hours with the family
Saturday - a few hours with the family
Sunday - working NASTAR, then maybe some bumps afterward
Monday - skiing the hill with my oldest

I'm going to use my Descente free tickets to check out 3 areas I've never been: Jay, Sunday River, Bretton Woods. :)

(I know, it's quite a bit of driving around. But unfortunately, Waterville block the weekend for us free loaders, so I'll have to take the long drive to SR)

Any insider's care to advice on not-to-miss runs/areas in each?

Or lifts to avoid on a holiday weekend?

Jay:

As always the rule is if you can get there for opening (8:30) the 1st 2 hours will be ok. The hords generally show up between 10:30 - 11:00. After that it depends upon which lifts are operating. If Marc Antoney and/or Cleopatra Triple are running you should be able to avoid any lift lines. Stay away from the quads particulaly Stephenson after 11.

Lower Cleo should have bumps this weekend which you could get some good laps on if those lifts are running. A word of caution thou, last weekend they had trouble with the bumps due to the extreme cold (hard compacted snow) and heavy scouring winds which have been blowing up the mountain for most of the last two weeks. I talked to a person in mountain ops and they told me they were going to blow fresh snow on them this week so hopefully it will be worked out. They also want to put some up on either Asp or Rocket soon.(not sure what soon means) The plan is to get bumps on Cliffhanger as well this year but next weekend there is a race on that trail so I wouldn't look for them this weekend. I'll broadcast it when they do because that should be excellent especially in the spring.

I will be up there most of the Saturday and Monday. Sunday I have to go to Sno Mountain for sons J3 Race. PM me if you think you'll be up and we can hit some (hopefully bump) runs and have a safety meeting if you so desire. If you get up Saturday and survive the hords happy hour at the Thirsty Camel should be hoppin with live music after skiing.

Thanks for the info Alex! If I go, it will be Sunday. Saturday we have the rain date for our annual Christmas Eve Football game (12th year), which we couldn't make happen in December given everyone's schedules. Monday I have to work. Keeping fingers crossed for Sunday though!

Goin' nowhere. Finally taking down the Christmas tree!! And taking my daughter back to college. We're blacked out...my better half is going to spend the weekend mudding and taping sheetrock at house #2.

Sno Mountain, PA on Monday. Was there last year on both MLK day and President's Day and crowds were the same as any other Sunday (minimal).

For all of you thinking of heading to Saddleback this weekend, right now there are a couple weather sites predicting 8 - 12" of fresh Sunday night into Monday. It might be too far out to be accurate, but, in any case...my plans are to head up there and ski both days. :snow:

well...looks like no where. the warming trend down here means a likely slushfest at the nearby, day-trip hills in southern pa...which is all i was hoping for in an otherwise busy weekend.

still trying to convince the wife that a quick over-nighter (it's about 3.5 hrs one-way from us) up to blue knob is a worthwhile endeavor.
