The "good" thing about many of the major resorts and holiday weekend crowds is that so many resorts have blackout passes holiday weekends. That not only eliminates a fair number of folks from the trails that usually might be there, but the few time a year crowd that shows up to replace the blacked out passholders generally don't know/use certain parts of many mountains that the regulars know and use, so that nowadays, while the lodges and signature lifts/trails at many mountains will be crowded this weekend, the regulars can generally quite easily find some uncrowded terrain and lifts to use to rack up the verts on a holiday weekend from 1st chair to last chair.

If not, I'll be heading to Saddleback on Sunday and would like to hit Wildcat Monday. If Wildcat isn't in the cards, it will be Saddleback again Monday.

That's sorta along the lines I was thinking, but from what I've heard about lift lines, Smuggs wasn't on the list. Burke was one idea, maybe Jay or Magic. Aside from the Jay cloud, though, I wouldn't think any place would have that good of on-map stuff given two weeks of cold but no snow. BC was the original plan, get some use of my AT setup, but I've got plumbing, redoing a shower, insulation, etc. to do at home.

Will do. Looking more and more like it's going to be Saddleback this weekend. The days are still up in the air. I imagine that the crowd debate on Saturday vs. Sunday is pretty moot. (at least at that Mountain)

The rest of the weekend will find me taking a few runs here and there at Pats. I usually try to avoid skiing holiday weekends if I have to pay for it.

As always the rule is if you can get there for opening (8:30) the 1st 2 hours will be ok. The hords generally show up between 10:30 - 11:00. After that it depends upon which lifts are operating. If Marc Antoney and/or Cleopatra Triple are running you should be able to avoid any lift lines. Stay away from the quads particulaly Stephenson after 11.

Lower Cleo should have bumps this weekend which you could get some good laps on if those lifts are running. A word of caution thou, last weekend they had trouble with the bumps due to the extreme cold (hard compacted snow) and heavy scouring winds which have been blowing up the mountain for most of the last two weeks. I talked to a person in mountain ops and they told me they were going to blow fresh snow on them this week so hopefully it will be worked out. They also want to put some up on either Asp or Rocket soon.(not sure what soon means) The plan is to get bumps on Cliffhanger as well this year but next weekend there is a race on that trail so I wouldn't look for them this weekend. I'll broadcast it when they do because that should be excellent especially in the spring.

I will be up there most of the Saturday and Monday. Sunday I have to go to Sno Mountain for sons J3 Race. PM me if you think you'll be up and we can hit some (hopefully bump) runs and have a safety meeting if you so desire. If you get up Saturday and survive the hords happy hour at the Thirsty Camel should be hoppin with live music after skiing.

This will be the first wekend in a month that i'm going to sleep in my own bed, probably going to make a run up to Crotched Sunday. If I didn't have plans Saturday night I'd be eyeing Burke again.
