Where do you think skiers go for different types of skiing?

I don't have a home mountain and therefore vary up the resorts quite a bit in NH and VT. When I'm at Cannon I see a load of powder boards, when I'm at Waterville Valley I'm always amazed at the number of carved railroad ruts in the trails, when I'm at Stowe I see lots of "Heli Ski" patches and when I'm at Sugar Bush I see a lot of long straight skis and wool pants. Anybody else notice that different skier types flock to different resorts?

MRG you have your people who arent there mostly for hanging out but to play Paradise / Fall Line / Antelope as much as they can in a day

Sugarbush is a nice mix mostly advanced skiiers if you stay to Heavens Gate and Castlerock you will be amongs your (my) peoples

Bolton Valley is a suprising one because even though it has plenty of squares, there are some real legit trails like Preacher, Devils Playground, Lost Boys, and Adams Solitude that you have pretty much to yourself due to the unknown factor of these trails in general.

Okemo is a bunch of snowplowing or (watch me carve this cordoroy perfectly) pricks

Bromley is a decent mountain its a mix of all kinds of people with some legit steeps and plenty for everyone

Jiminy Peak in Mass is where everyone from NJ or New York who is too lazy to drive another hour and a half goes. It's a mess. At least they make show.

Berkshire East.. which has barely been open much this year due to shitty conditions... is where you will find the die-hard Mass local skiiers.... it's like the Magic Mountain of the berkshires.

Mount Snow is overrun by snowboards and their terrain is lame anyway and they don't know how to properly groom.

KILLINGTON:: most diverse mix of people from all around the world. Always something different when you go there.

Jay Peak: Parlez vous francaise? Very cool crowd in general.

Sunapee: Normal people... all abilities, local mountain, some prick lift attendants.


Am I missing places that really matter? Maybe. Remind me?

In that aspect I feel I did a thorough and accurate job.

There is no correlation between the two. K just seems to do a wonderful job of attracting a bunch of hostile and pushy a-holes. Not that other areas don't have a-holes but K has really seemed to corner the market. Mt Snow gets their fair share too.

That's only been my experience, I'd never go there again because it was like "SLOW ZONE" "KID ZONE" and pretty flat crowded trails the whole time.

I'm sure that was my harshest statement but I didn't even mention most placces in NH

Hunter..pretty much everything, but its not the Hunter of old...skiers and boarders of ALL abilities go there.
Plattekill...pretty much a local's place..again all abilities. You will see some old straight ski skiers there..and they are very good!! especilay the guy in the carharts and the $1.98 skis..well thats what the price tag on them says!

Rode up the chair with him after he tried to tell some folks the lift wasn't open to keep them from "snowplowing through the powder" and he complained the entire way up about snowboarders trashing the hill. I kinda liked him but at the same time a real a-hole.

Unfortunately skiing brings out the a-holeiness in a lot of people. People feel entitled about their place on the mountain for various reasons. For some it's "I'm a local, I live here, all you peeps form away are trespassing on my lines". For others it's " I spent $75,000, for my Porche SUV, 1.5 million for my on Mountain Condo, $1,500 for my Bogner Jacket, I deserve to be here. It's ashame because we're all there for the same thing.

Very true. On the other hand some places seem to have that feeling of comraderie. Magic had an amazing laid back welcoming feel when I skied there last year. The people there were awesome too. Its a smaller mountain with less of a resort type feel which is part of it. Idk if it is every man for himself on a powder day and all that changes. MRG has had a similar feel. Every time I go up they are giving out free samples. Last time it was Ben and Jerrys, peanut butter, cookies and cheese. Love it! But anyways, the feel and atmosphere of those two mountains is great!

In this thread I was considering them the same. Let's assume that you're awesome at powder and landing 25' hucks, but can't beat a Dartmouth racer in a slalom course, often double eject landing a back layout flip off the second kicker of a mogul run, end up off axis when spinning a switch 720 off a 60' tabletop and you're still working on your corked maneuvers in the half pipe.

These would be different types of skiing (powder, racing, bumps, parks) performed by different types of skiers (off-pisters, racers, bumpers and parkers), right?

I wasn't thinking of types of skiers as beginner, intermediate, expert because those terms are used to define a very specific type of skiing. For instance, just in the short list of skier types I listed above, I described you as expert, intermediate, intermediate, intermediate respectively.

Sugarbush is my home mountain and I rarely see long straight skis and wool pants.
