A friend of mine and I plan on going to Vermont or upstate New York this week, Wednesday to Friday. We're trying to figure out which of these places has the most open trails and best conditions. Gore Mtn., Whiteface, Killington, Stowe, or Sugarbush. Anyone been or have suggestions? Thanks in advance!

most trails would be kton and i would guess after the ice storm that would be best metric to use till we get some new snow.

My bud skied Stowe on Saturday. Here are his words: "a thin crust (like the toasted sugar on top of a creme brullee!) on top of lots of wonderful powder. "Spruce Camp" (their new base lodge is fully open now.)

Sounds like Stowe would be the best of the lot.

What kind of terrain do you want?

Sugarbush is skiing well, but there is r&*( in the forecast for tomorrow, so I don't know how we will fare.

Whiteface got no rain. Ten inches of snow on the ground. Most of little whiteface is open. Ski here during the week and you will have the whole hill to yourself.

I know that very few people ever recommend this area but you should at least consider Bolton Valley. I imagine they would have received similar snow conditions as Stowe/Sugarbush since BV is located in that general area.

The main reason for me recommending it this week, however, is cost. This week (Mon - Thurs) lift tickets are only $14 for all skiers/riders. In this tough economy it's hard to beat a $14 lift ticket. Maybe you ski there one of your days this week to help you afford the much higher prices of nearby Stowe. Bolton Valley also has night skiing this week for that same $14 price.

Sugarbush has the best conditions in the East right now. They always do. They actually get just as much snow as Jay, but unlike Jay they're truthful about snow reporting. Jay doesn't have more trails open then Sugarbush or Killington either. All lies.

And Friday. As I understand it, tickets are $14 this week, Monday through Friday. And, yes, my first post is to correct a minor, inconsequential mistake that nobody probably cares about. Because I'm a broken person, and that's the kind of thing I do. You're welcome.

Oh, and while I'm here: I would have to see some pretty persuasive evidence in support of this claim before I would put any faith in it. Unless this is some very wry humor. Everybody knows I don't get jokes. I blame Gallagher.
