OK, here goes. Another what would you do thread.

Warren Miller calls you up and wants to know which mountains he should feature in his next film. Choose any mountains, but he really wants to focus on places that have not been featured in any of his films....in fact, his new film is entitled, "Hidden Stash: The Quest for Powder."

Which ones do you choose and why?

Here's my list for the New England Ski Areas:

Burke: And I know that you're surprised  Get some BMA Alums together and have them rip it up on the POMA slope and then the trees.

Mad River: A legend. Feature the single chair. Enough said.

Jay Peak: Get the Meatheads to kick some Jay a$$ in the glades. Maybe feature a jump from the tram or something...oh yeah, and have someone hit the cliffs under the tram.

Bolton: Maybe feature the DesLauriers in a homecoming of sorts. Hit the trees and glades. Some BC. Then feature the young hip crowd on the pipes and terrain parks at night!

Sugarloaf: Has this ever been in a film before? If not, hit the snowfields.

OK and for the exotic places to go:

Le Massif: I hear many good things.

Mt. Orford: Ditto.

Zermatt: C'mon. You knew I was going to throw this one in as well

So where are you going to send the crew and why?

Jay-Hit up the glades and the ridge and pumphouse and all of that steep stuff.
Wildcat-The woods there are great, and I know less than half the stuff, I know one guy who can ski there all day, never ski a ski trail (besides crossing or to get to a stash) and never ski the same woods section twice.
MRG-Tons of woods stuff
Sugarbush-Tons of woods stuff. The steeple or church, I can't remember what it is called but it is supposed to be sick.
Stowe-Also supposed to have some sick BC stuff.

not that the east gets any respect in WM films, but i am surprised tucks doesn't get some footage. mrg, stowe, and maybe jay would be the only serious contenders in my book. WM would require dependability of having some pow to ski on and the northern greens are where to look. mrg isn't as dependable as it's northern friends, but that is an area even west coasters should get a peak at on video.

better yet, WME should go to killington. nothing else to see here on the east coast, move along now...

Not Storm. I own that movie and there is no Tucks...to bad.

Jay would be awsome. Hit the glades and the cliffs on the Face. Show the people in the West we have some pretty gnarley skiing...

Except he put a pretty negative spin on it when he showed people slipping all over the place. His expression" once you find you're way from the bottom of the mountain to the top...there's nothing left to ski" wasn't much of an endorcement. Get him back on the Westside on a powder day.

It was a while ago, straight skiies and a one piece suit. I have a copy somewhere, I can't remember off hand, but it wasn't Storm. It was a much earlier one. If i find it I'll let you know.

They did Trremblant a while ago. Even had a flashback to the old, old days of long wood skis and baggy wood pants.

I think that may have been Black Diamond Rush. They featured a 100 year old skier or something. That was a good film...Sugarbush, Killington (I think?) and Tremblant.

Your right. I just checked it out. Sugarbush with the Egan brothers and Tremblant with 100 year old A.J.Snow. I kid you not his name is Snow.

Tuckermans was in Ski Country in 1985.
If you want to realy see Tucks watch Epoch from Meathead Films. They did a great job.

i actually thought the tux segment on epoch could have been better.i felt they were limited by number of cameras and not enough shooting positions. you really did not get a feel for the emense expanse of the ravine area and it was hard to tell which route the skiers were descending just by watching the action. not disrespecting the meatheads job with epoch, fantastic film and i highly recommend it. i just hope their success gets them more and better equipment so they can do even better shots.

having just skied the east snowfields yesterday for the first time, i am surprised they have not appeared in a more recent WM film (or any of the other major production outfits for that matter). it is a great spring skiing location which would make for a cool spring skiing segment and the east snowfields have that wide open expanse feel that many of the west coast shots have since it is all above tree line. top to bottom on mount washington is something every east coast backcountry skier would want to shoot for. on a bluebird day with good skiing and climbing conditions, it would make for footage that even west coasters could be envious of.

the problem for WM is that mount washington would not pay big bucks to have WM film a segment at the mountain. nor would almost any east coast skier area be able to pay WME enough money to schedule a shot for a movie. it is all about the benjamins over at WME, the soul of skiing is so far removed from that franchise it is laughable.
