Since most resorts will be virtually empty on the weekend of December 20 and and 21, who is planning on taking advantage of this opportunity to partake in some winter sliding and riding while everyone else will be out shopping for Christmas gifts?

I'm tempted to go to Mohawk for their annual Learn to Ski/Snowboard for Free event on 12/20. I figured I'd take the snowboarding lesson: the lesson, lift ticket (for learning area), and rental are all free. Hmmm....

Do you really think the resorts will be "Virtually Empty" on Dec. 20 and 21? Because I don't. I ski the weekend before Christmas every year, and I really don't see a discernable difference btwn that weekend and the previous weekend (or any weekend in January for that matter). If you really want to ski a mountain that's "virtually empty," go skiing on Christmas Day itself. I do it every year and it's great.

Getting out the 18-19th, at a spot yet TBD. I'd like to use up my WM freebies, so some sort of combination involving either Smuggs-Stratton with a stay in Stowe, or Wildcat-WV with a stay in Conway.

I'll be out that weekend and the following week. I'm going where the best snow it. Won't know that until the day before I go.

If conditions improve, I am considering Burke or Magic during the holiday period as an antidote from crowds and high ticket prices....

Shopping? Unless it involves ski equipment, that's not my department. :)

Right where I want to be
I may go to Ragged on the 21st to use my free tickets from the Chad card. Then take a trip up to Burke sometime during the week between Christmas and New Years. Also a few days @ Pats peak with the kiddos.

I'll be at Mount Snow as usual. For the last several years I've also noticed that the weekend before the holidays has been less crowded than a normal December weekend. But it seems that it's been more crowded overall this year so who knows?

Some friends and I are going to hit up Smuggs on that Saturday then Sunday River on Sunday. That will be a hell of a drive but free lift ticket at Smuggs expires on Sunday.
