Obviously, my post was tongue-in-cheek but with the quality of sking in Chile at such a top level I am curious why they don't do ski racing. I wonder if the top college ski teams have some racers from south of the Equator.
I would imagine national infrastructure of the Olympic team/national team and lack of funding would be major factors. Training full time for skiing is ultra expensive and it doesn't hurt to have sponsor dishing out everything for free to the team. Finances and organizational structure (or lack thereof) would seem to be major issues facing teams that are not well established. Not to mention USA has a hard enough time winning the core skiing events due to how passionate most Euro countries are, some of which have skiing as the national past time. Tough to crack into that elite top talent level in which most people are born dreaming of being on a national ski team.

.......but when they do in the US, backs get turned due to politics/money. A big gripe of mine with Bode

this probally going to open a huge can of worms but didn't bode leave because of the politics money. as in the team gets jack so he went free agent. they only sports in the usa you can make a living from are the ones where you have huge advertising dollars comming in. by going private he was able to sell advertising space and such to sponsors.

As far as the Olympics being anything close to it's original intent/mission......that racer has left the starting gate years ago. If your going to allow pro hockey players, baseball, basketball, on and on I think racers on the US Ski Team should get paid too. Course, I would prefer that no professional athletes be allowed to compete in the Olympics.

i kinda dissagree about pro athletes. the Olympics are about the best from each country. so it who ever qualifies. from what i can tell the is a lot of bs with the us Olympics committees but i have never really followed the subject that closely so.
