Why does my back decided now to start to hurt

get a foam roller, it really works! At least it did for me.
I've had lower back problems for the last 30+ years. I used to go to a physical therapist ever month for deep tissue massage. But now I no longer have to go, I just use the foam roller every other day. It's even better than that once a month massage.

I'll second a foam roller. They are cheap and can work some magic.

I sometimes get lower back pain from running or from skiing. I find stretching helps. The simple, sit on the ground grab your toes (or in my case, just try to touch them) works. Then I do each leg individually.
