Ha! You're right, especially since it makes me look like I ski bumps better then I do. Timing is key! ;)

What course did you tee it up at on the Cape? The weather appears great in your golf pic.

Quashnet Valley Country Club in Mashpee. It's a pretty challenging course (slope of 129). My feeble score of 116 proves that. I suck at golf.

Sounds like we could have some battles on the links.

I'm sorry I didn't visit this topic earlier. Great thread idea Austin. I purposely didn't check it out because I didn't want to read a bunch of lengthy description on why one area is better than the others, and that's exactly what this thread was meant to avoid.

There is some awesome pics in here guys! Makes me want this winter to arrive even more now!

I wish I had a bunch of great shots from a 'cool' home mountain like you guys! Here's the best that I could come up with from my home mountain on a particularly nice day early last year:

Bev, the snow in those shots look great. If only conditions conditions could be like that everyday.

BTW- whose the poser in the first 2 pixs? Dude has no game.

The snow was awesome that day, especially for Dec 9th in CT! :snow:

I don't know who that gaper is, he kept trying to follow me around all day. ;):spin:

MCJr., I like Gore alot, but you didn't post one picture that would make me want to ski there. A picture is worth a 1000 words only if it is a picture that says something.

Yeah, I wish I had some :-(

You have a couple of them, don't you? Toss some in!

Most of the time, when conditions are good, I don't really want to stop to take pictures of other people skiing . . . And nobody takes pictures of me skiing because I'm usually too far ahead of them. ;-)

Dang Jr. I'm always doing stuff for my own kids, now I have to take care of you too?

I have a few, but I don't feel like uploading and copying them here. Maybe later.

Well give me a head start sometime and I'll get some of you. A Slide day maybe.

Why does my home mountain rock?

1. It's 3 hours from the D.C. area on a good day, meaning a HUGE amount of people are filtered out long before they get here.
2. It averages 150 inches of snow a year, which isn't much compared to up north in VT/NH/ME/NY, but compared to the resorts that are within an 1.5 hour drive, it's up to 7 times as much snow
3. Like I said before, crowds are very minimal
4. Limited lift capacity; two fixed grip triples serving 34 trails keeps the trails uncrowded
5. Laid back feeling
6. If the crowds do get to be too much there is another ski area 2 miles down the road of similar quality that I can escape to.
7. Located in a ridiculous sub-climate. I've left the D.C. area when the temperature was pushing 50 and arrived here to temps in the 25-28 degree range.
8. 1000 foot vertical which is fairly large for the Mid-A

I'm talking about Timberline in West Virginia. Unfortunately I don't have any pics that I've taken, but here's one taken from a USDA webcam.

Ski resort on the left is Timberline, on the right is Canaan Valley. There are a few additional trails to the left of where this picture cuts off.
