:uzi: don't get me started. Might be true but really

I hear ya... Jersey feels the same..
All those VT lesbians with wire rim glasses driving in the fast lane in their Subaru with Phish stickers.. Hauling carved bears and maple syrup... :)

if somebody dumped a bunch of money in my lap, i'd be out of here in heartbeat. burned it at both ends in the big snapple - playing in bands, living in clubs, going to shows, museums, restaurants, the park etc. been there, done that. ready for something new. i can always come back & visit ...

Wow! I'm away for a week (skiing out west:) ) and 7 pages of "why not move out west"

Well, I was at Park City as a guest of a couple who moved out there from Jersey! So it's natural the subject was touched upon.

It really boils down to the question below:

I would rather flip the question upside down and ask why you would want to move out west? If your only answer is skiing (as mine surely would be) then I think there is more to life than just that and those are the things that keep me here.
Even beyond skiing, there're quite a lot of outdoor things to do out west. My friend at Park City didn't even ski when she first moved out there! (her husband skis) But she loved the mountain biking. Skiing was just an after thought.

That said, I'm one of those who had lived "out west" and returned. Mind you, I'm not even "from" the east!!! So I CHOOSE to live HERE!

1) Skiing isn't a priority, period. I enjoy it and ski as much as I can find time (and snow). But it will never be the reason for choosing where I live.

2) Outdoor activity isn't the only thing either. Though for road biking, I like the east a lot better than the west. Surprise??? When you live there for a few years and realize there're but only 20-30 roads that take you around the area, you'll get sick and tired of the same old same old route.

3) Food, B'way, Lincoln Center, window shopping, green trees with real leaves (instead of pine needles), lakes, rivers, ocean...

By and large, the west tend to have more outdoor opportunities, simply because it hadn't been over ran by people, YET! But the lack of population also means a general lack of cultural opportunities, If you're a theater buff, or worse yet, like to "get involved" a bit from time to time, you'll have much better opportunity in the east.

The best place out west people talk about: CA and WA. That where the "insufferable people of the west" concentrates! I kid you not!!! (Northen CA was where I lived, loved it for a few years but ultimately got bored with it. Haven't got bored of NYC after 20 years!!!)

People on this board sometimes forget, not all of us are "skiers" who does whatever needed in order to ski. There're a lot of us who have a balanced life which happens to include skiing!

I'm an insufferable bastard who would have trouble making new friends and family out there. And also a bit of a masochist in my recreational pursuits, obviously.

Merry Christmas everyone!

[QUOTEFor me, it is work and family. Though, I am working on both and I think sweetheart is warming up to the idea.[/QUOTE]

I have the same issues, but the wife is only willing to possibly move to the New England region. I tried to move us out west seven years ago, but now she's completely against the idea. So, I'm still stuck down here in snowless Delaware:sad:.

Slow down and enjoy the elbow room in the horse country around Pagosa Springs, CO right next to some of the best wilderness areas in the lower 48. Hiking, Climbing, Hang Gliding, Kayaking, Fishing. They also have a nice little family ski area there.
