Trip Report
I was fortunate enough to ski yesterday with three friends from my area, one of which was my first time ever skiing with and everyone kept upand had a great time.
We got to the mountain about 7:45am and got in line to get our commemerative pins and vintage trailmap that was to be passed out to the first 100 ticket buyers. At that time there were only 30 or so people in line. We got one of the first chairs up and warmed up on Polecat. I don't care how good you may be, that run is still one of my favorites and I dont care if it's a green. I love to bomb it T2B standing hard on my edge to make the tight turns.
Crowds were very light for a $9 ticket day and conditions were good except for a few scratchy spots in the middle of the trails late in the day. The longest line we waited in was maybey 5 minutes but most of the day it was pretty much ski on.
The best snow was on Wildcat where it was soft PP and the had blown some huge whalebacks. Middle Wildcat started to bump a little on skiers left but the were small and irregular. Lower Bob and Tomcat were also very nice allowing for high speed GS turns where you feel like you're standing on rails as you carve.
The views in the morning were stunning.
But that infamous Mount Washington weather soon started claiming the summit.
By later in the day the wind was howling pretty good and starting to scour some of the trails but it was also pushing some loose snow to the sides making for some exquisite turns next to the trees.
About mid day we were riding the quad when I noticed a few people looking into the woods around tower 16 and I could hear the cry of a little girl. I yelled down and asked if they needed help and they said yes, a little girl had skied off the trail and was deep in the woods. We were close to the top so it only took a minute or so to get to the summit. We immediately went to the patrol hut and found that someone was already responding. We skied down to the sceene and spoke to a witness who said the girl(about ten) was out of control and going very fast and went straight off the trail, impacted a tree at it's midpoint and continued to travel into the woods. I was told she was okay and her father and ski patrol was with her but she was sooo deep in there I still couldn't see her. I hope she is alright.
Here are a few more pics.
Overall it was a great day to ski with great friends.
