Will you ski in moderate to heavy rain?

Thinking about those rock hard Temptor bumps at Sundown right now as well as the rain and warmth forecast for Wednesday has me wishing they were open. It seems the majority of the skiing public won't ski in the rain. How about you?

Personally, I don't have any problem with it whatsoever. Rain always results in nice soft snow. Once you're out in it for a while, and assuming you have decent gear, you acclimate pretty quickly. Heading inside for a break or to eat and then heading back out in sopping wet gear is kind of a drag though.

If the rain is falling in the form of snow, then yes.

Yes, doesn't bother me much. I'll usually change my ski pants at midday though, as they'll have gotten a bit too wet for my liking by that point. (From sitting on lift seats).

If I'm already out, and it starts to rain, I'll keep going. If it's a moderate to heavy rain when I wake up in the morning, I'll skip the day. Slight drizzle, I'll be out there.

Definitely but my limit is about 2 hours..The skiing surface in rain is so nice..fast but soft..I help deliver tombstones in the rain and sometimes play golf in the rain so I'll definitely ski in the rain. I miss days due to being tired more than due to the weather..As for skiing in freezing rain and sleet..it sucks..but I'll still ski in those conditions..

Not if I can help it. If I'm already out and it starts to rain I'm much more likely to continue than I am to get up in the morning and trudge through the rain to get started.

heavy rain no. a few hours in light rain is ok. main problem is visibility. love the snow conditions and yeah the bumps can be great.

Light rain yes - heavy no. Plenty of gear to keep dry - hate no visibility with rain on the goggles.

I read this quickly and thought it asked, "will you moderate rather than ski in rain?" That's my usual protocol....

It depends. If it's raining before I drive to the mountain then the drive's off and I do laundry instead. If I drive to the mountain and find out it's raining when I get there, I will ski even if it's a monsoon. Only lightning will get me indoors. If I'm staying overnight at the mountain and it's still raining, I'll still ski in a monsoon. A lousy day of skiing beats a great day at work.
