I saw that both Wildcat and Loon are closed all day due to winds. Any other areas never get going today?

my local hill up here in New Brunswick closed at 11:30 this morning
Fortunately I had a great day of skiing yesterday in a blizzard, always fresh tracks and zero lift lines!

Mt. Abram is closed.

DHS was planning a trip there today...hopefully he called an audible & adjusted his plans. SRiver still at least has barker spinning.

Sugarbush only had the beginner lifts open. Jay reported -20 and 50-79mph winds so I assume they were closed.

SR might as well have been this morning.Only 2 lower lifts running.I'll give them credit for hanging in there as they have now opened Locke,Barker, and the Chondi.

They opened Locke on a Tuesday? Gotta be because of Mass vaca week. I never catch it open skiing weekdays.

It's Monday, but You are correct. SR rarely runs Locke during the week.

Nope, got screwed. I checked the report and saw the Way Back Machine was on hold, but they intended to run the T-Bar. It was apparently too windy up top to run even that. So, I hung in the lodge for a couple of hours with fingers crossed and threw in the towel shortly after 11.

I had thought about heading to Shawnee Peak as they were able to run their East Double giving access to the summit, however in this weather and without the main lift going from the base area, it hardly seemed worth it to spend $52 for a half day there.

Oh well. I guess next time maybe I'll make a phone call half way to the hill on days like today. I thought for certain they'd at least have the T-Bar running.

Mount Snow was only open as high a the Nitro Express at Carinthia goes until about 11:15 when the wind let down enough to get the Bluebird spinning (about then I headed out) the Northface and Sunbrook never opened today - the -18 temps on my car thermometer and 20-30mph winds at 7:30 left me with no desire to head out for 1st chair this AM!! The "crack 'o noon" first run was much more appealing today!!

Hunter has had the West Side closed yesterday and again today. Yesterday was empty and cold. Sad they missed the holiday weekend sales. They had a band on Sat & Sun and fireworks on Sat.. I did not stay for the fireworks on Sat but they had a decent bar crowd at 6 still. Sunday must have been empty. No one seems to have Pres day off anymore

Only lifts running at Killington today were Bear Mt. chair, Skye Peak chair, Snowdon quad, Middlebrook quad, Ramshead & Snowshed quads & stage 1 of Skyeship. You could get from the Bear side to the K-1 side but there was no way back to the Bear side except for the shuttle bus.

Even Bretton Woods has the Rosebrook summit lift closed all day. That's the first time I've ever seen them with a closure.

Not my picture but you can SEE the wind in this pic from the top of Mt Washington today. Look at the blast of snow coming out of the top of the Wildcat HSQ liftline.

Blowing snow by rightthewrong, on Flickr

I like how on their Facebook page this AM the Mount Washington Observatory posted a screenshot picture of a weather data sheet showing how this AM they were tied for 2ND IN THE WORLD of recording weather stations for coldest reading!! Only a station basically at the South Pole was colder!! And that didn't even take into account for the SUSTAINED 100+mph winds with gusts to about 150 they were recording (the strongest gusts there in over a decade!!)

Bummer for the resorts and all of the people that booked vacations. It's been a really good year for the most part, but holiday periods have been tough. Xmas snow was marginal (ironically excellent a couple of weeks before), first day of MLK weekend was really cold per the thermometer (actually not that bad with the sun) and now two days of cold and wind.

It was an easy choice not to drive up to the Catskills today to deal with the cold and my kids and then everyone driving home from their long weekend.
