I skied at Windham for roughly 4 hours yesterday. I would have stayed longer, but the rental boots were uncomfortable and my legs started to cramp up. Windham's rental equipment is not as good quality as Hunter's.
They claimed to be 80 percent open, but by trail count it's more like 63 percent, and by acreage it's more like 77 percent. Many of the guns were running all day long, even on open trails, so there is much snowmaking left to be done. But still, there was plenty to enjoy.
Conditions were icy. Whereas the blacks at Hunter last week were skiing like "hard blues," some of the blues at Windham yesterday were skiing like "easy blacks." For instance Wedgie, rated a blue, was a fairly steep sheet of ice on its top half. It was harder than many blacks I have been on.
There was a good crowd, including nearly a hundred skiers and boarders dressed in Santa Claus outfits.
