Many of the US talking heads have no clue about our sport
they spend too much time at NASCAR events. It's pretty much the same, isn't it?

Which reminds me, how come the most ignorant people get the nicest ski duds? Can I have their leftovers, please? I'll take the stuff from the Today show cast too. It's probably in the back of the closet in some Manhattan penthouse.

Change NASCAR to "Golf and Football" and that statement will be correct.

PS: I'm not looking forward to figure skating. That means my wife will watch and I'll have to try to tune out "Scotty" Hamilton's stupid comentary on Sow Cow and Lutzs.

I'm a recreational skier. I have little clue about the skiing-related olympic events, either.

+1 which is why it didn't occur to me that the Olympics were even this season. Actually, the bump comps are really the only thing I make a point to watch. Some of the DH is cool too.

I only like watching skiing events in person. Watching a few racers do the course in an NCAA or J1 event is really impressive. Super G events are really sick to watch. I'd love to see a World Cup Downhill some day. The M1 bumper events are also great to watch live. Even the baby bumpers doing M2 events are fun to check out.

I doubt I'll watch 10 minutes of Olympic coverage. It's 90% Hockey and Figure Skating. Unless there's a hot woman figure skater, I have no interest. Of course, I'm the same way with woman's tennis. If they're hot, I'll watch.

When you had the broadcasting "stars"..Costas..etc...the power politics nationalism of "Amerika Uber Alles"..took over from the coverage of the skiing/other-Olympic-events...and focused entirely on the personas..but you know I think now that the corporate interests in the skiers/athletes are greater than the old competition based on the "Cold War"...there's more coverage of all the top skiers & athletes....particularly with the competition from the internet coverage.

Take a couple runs down a NASTAR course and your perspective might change. When I watch alpine event competition on the tele or net, I still, to this day find myself weighting and unweighting with them. When they have a problem on the course, I find myself tensing up and feeling it. I think once you've done it, no matter how badly you executed the course, you have a real appreciation for the skill involved. It also makes you appreciate just how perfectly these racers can perform a turn that has taken me a lifetime to master!
