Just read the forecast. Snow showers and low temps for the week ahead. Well I'm stoked after watching it rain on my 2 days off. Funny, sunny day Saterday, then rain for 2 days, now I'm back at work and its nice again. Which one of the gods did I piss off?

It ain't over yet!

The Northern Greens will most likely be picking up quite a bit of snow over the next 36 hours...1' or more? We'll see what happens...

I have a light dusting at my house(10mi from Jay), and its been flurrying off and on since noon today. probably coming down harder at Jay, it will be an interesting and hopefully exciting next couple of days. although their is still a decent snowpack considering, it looks more like april than march, hopefully the next couple of days will change that. its good to see a little more white on the yard!

How about you just stay at work until late April. You can take all the days off that you want over the summer.

From Mad River Glen at 10:30 AM

WELL, WE GOT AN INCH OF SNOW OVERNIGHT AND IT'S STILL SNOWING! The forecast is calling for SNOW every single day this week with the possibility of several inches underfoot by tomorrow. Last week's warmer temperatures and rain have forced us to close mid-week as we have lost quite a bit of our base. We will need substantial snowfall to re-open for the weekend and to host our Mogul Challenge and Jr. Mogul Challenge. The decision on whether we can open for the weekend will be made tomorrow, Thursday. In the event that we cannot open this weekend, the mountain will be closed for the season. Stay tuned for any updates....and hope for SNOW!

That is a disappointing report at best. It would be ridiculous if MRG closed this early in the season - can't say I ever remember them closing before the very end of March or early April. I've stopped getting angry about the weather and started getting my road bike ready. Not to say I don't plan on skiing until the end, but I'm at peace with this awful awful season and am ready to look forward to biking season.

Whiteface is reporting 6" at the summit, but the summit chair is also on windhold, so well see how much actually holds up there.

Hopefully it doesn't all blow into the trees. I want to get up there again for some corn.

How about an update from Jay

I didn't ski today, but a buddy of mine said it was pretty good. quite windy, but he said that tram side was more protected today and had top to bottom knee deep pow all the way down the left side of JFK. it snowed off and on today, but it has picked up this evening and is coming down nice now. I bet 8"-10" is a pretty good bet with the lower number probably being more accurate. tomarrow morning should be great, I'll be out first thing hitting my wind protected caches. looks like this dump is really working out

Mad River Update

Mad River Today Mar 16, 2006 at 12:15:00

WE HAVE ANOTHER 4"-6" OF SNOW UNDERFOOT AND MORE ON THE WAY!!! The mountain has been thoroughly evaluated and without further snowfall we would not be able to open for the weekend. The snow totals range from 0” to 12” with many of the trails windblown clean of snow with nothing more than a glacier base. We will re-evaluate the mountain in the morning and a “Final” decision on the weekend operations will be made by mid-morning. The Jr. Mogul Challenge, Mogul Challenge, and Vertical Challenge are CANCELED! Due to the safety of the mountain we are also discouraging people from hiking.

Just got back from the Hill. Not much happened overnight, maybe an inch or two, but the wind did it's thing up high. The boot pack that we broke last night at 5 was blown in flat and 20 inches deep. Waded thru snow better thrn knee deep all the way out. Stuff is really filling in well up high.
