My wife and older daughter need new ski jackets and pants this season. Both are looking for some technically great gear, but are into the fashionable side of things Been scouring the web without a lot of success. Anyone know of stores (NYC area) or websites that they should be looking at?

My 2 cents, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE have your wife and daughter try any ski clothing on that you may want to get them BEFORE you buy them!!! The last thing you want to be reminded of (by them!!!) is how the fit isn't right or how it makes such and such a body part look "less than desirable" while they're wearing it!!! You'd more than likely NEVER hear the end of it, even years after they've moved on from those garments, regardless of how technically advanced the fabrics and features are!!

Better yet, let them go out and buy them...

99+% of the time I only get clothes for my wife for birthday or Christmas and then only when she gives me a list with the exact item, color, and size.

Let me be clear...there is no way that I'm buying stuff for them without their approval. Do you think I'm crazy? I just want to send them in the right direction...otherwise they will still be looking for new outfits during the 2017 President's Day weekend sales.

$.01....Ditto hammer, let them go out and purchase. Return policies are nice on more than a few of the online outfitters though... Evo.com, Backcountry.com, USOutdoor.com & others, but it's impossible to gauge the style-fit and sizing without having tried on something to compare against.
Marmot, TNF, Mountain HW, Patagucci & others....with their breatheable shells/jackets and pants are pretty nice looking. Won a shell/jacket from Heli Hanson the other year...think one or a few other jackets/shells I would've preferred...friggin thing looks more like a street punk's hoody with a stretch waistband I have to figure out how to expand:lol: ...Maybe it'll work for shoveling snow...

A number of local shops have an on line presence, such as these at Killington:
http://www.northernskiworks.com/Womens-Ski-Clothing_c_20.html
https://www.basinski.com/?s=Jackets&post_type=product

This is another on line source:
http://www.evo.com/outlet-shop/clothing/outerwear/jackets/womens.aspx
http://www.evo.com/shop/clothing/outerwear/jackets/womens.aspx

This place comes up a lot when I've done some searches:
http://www.peterglenn.com/category/women's/jackets/ski

You can also shop the manufacturers directly if you know what you like:
http://www.spyder.com/womens-jackets/l/307
http://www.descente.com/women
etc....
However most shops only carry a few jackets from any given manufacturer. If you see something you like from a manufacturer, finding it in a store can be a challenge. The store can order it for you though.

Perhaps a better solution to spring sales is fall sales, meaning right now into October. Many ski shops are just itching to get rid of last years leftovers at half off. Shops at large hills have far better selection in my experience compared to chain stores or small flatland shops. In VT that's going to be Mt Snow, Stratton, Okemo, Killington, Stowe. In Killington there are a dozen shops with Okemo just down the road with a half dozen more. There is probably no place in the northeast with better selection.

I agree that buying on line, unless your friend had one that fit great and you loved it, is a tough way to get what you want. Color, feel of the fabric, weight, fit, all matter and you can't really tell on line. Will my sweater fit under this jacket? Will the color match my boots? For some of us fashion neanderthals, not so much, but for someone who is "On the fashionable side of things" on line can be challenging.

Put in my typical plug for Flylow. Spendy, but fantastic quality. Not sure if it will fit women's "fashionable" criteria.

I find most stores are WAY too expensive for the selections, at least where I live. However, if cost is not an issue, have them try stuff on in stores.....

Otherwise, I have been really happy with www.backcountry.com - if there are reviews, you can get an idea of the fit.... send it back if it doesn't fit!!!!!

Many stores are not allowing trying-ons.

Maybe better to use websites that has good, no charge return policies. You can look through the technical stuff online. But it's hard to predict fit. Also, color doesn't always render well on screen vs reality.

Have had great luck at Peter Glenn over the years with free returns. Ironic since it is a southern ski shop.
