I'm finding more and more skiers where I work.. Was at a convention with our CEO... He's really into skiing - lived in CO for a while.. Our CFO has a big picture in his office of him getting off a chopper in Europe to ski... My direct boss skis... My coworkers ski...

At first I thought it was great.. Because it's great to be with people that are into the same thing... But lately I'm thinking it MAY not be so good.. Because I always counted on non-skiers to fill in for me on a powder day... :(

I''m going to take direct and honest approach and say that if there's more than 6" of fresh.. I'm home...

Almost no one skis where I work. They all know I won't be in if it's snowing though. As a matter of fact when I had to take the day off yesterday to take care of my daughter they were confused because it hadn't snowed that they knew of. ;)

There is just one skier in the department I'm moving to but we will be working on different products. There are no set hours in my new group and I can come and go as a please as long as my work is buttoned up. So there will be no guilt or deception when I get in at 7 AM on Wednesday so I can leave at 3:30/4 PM to hit night skiing at Sundown.

I am the only zealot @ my work. My boss's boss (temporary type of guy...here for two years then he's gone) is a zealot, wants my skis.

Funny story...he e-mailed me last year...wanted to know if I was @ Wachusett. Apparently he thought I had a blackberry and thought it would receive @ wa...and thought I'd be checking it.

I was @ work...responded with a "HEH! are you kidding? Do you think I'd acknowledge being on snow mid-day mid-week?"

His daughter was in a school group on snow that day and the daughter was skiing alone because her pals were out that day. He wanted me to ski with her (if I would be so kind as to ski with her aproach).

He totally gets that I am nuts about the sport.

My boss is a golfer. He also totally gets that I'm a zealot. When I call in to say I'm skipping work for the morning to go to Wa....he always says "have a good time".

I am lucky in that regard.

There was a cartoon a few years back of a guy calling in sick from his cell phone on the chairlift. The boss is seen taking the call on his cell phone three chairs behind him.

Not many at my work ski. A few used to and haven't been in years. It makes it easier to get swaps when I want a day off.

Since Burke is about 10 minutes away, I can usually get away with skiing between classes. I can be difficult on the busier days at school, but I have to plan the day just right in order to maximize the amount of runs I can get in at the mountain.

Your boss is a trekie too?

Which one of you dressed up like Mr. Spock?

:dunce:

No... But i did find out he's into the Grateful Dead...

Besides it was WAY more geeky then a Star Trek convention.. It was a convention for the Teradata database used in data warehousing..
