Whatever I thought was going to get tracked out the fastest. I'd be inclined to lay down some nice GS type turns. There's always the rest of the day for the other fun stuff...

Steeps?

I personally like to hit up a groomed steep and lay down some GS carves.

I personally like to take a screamer run off the first chair. I have done it once at Burke and it was very fun. Upper/Big Dipper has 5 headwalls to fly off of at high speed on the way down. Being on the first chair and knowing there is no one below you/below the headwalls allows for launching over them like I'm a downhill racer. Its is sooo nuch fun. I am kind of a speed freak so obviously this isn't for everyone. I love the trees as well. However, at Burke there is nobody there so the trees don't get tracked out in the first hour. So I can save them for later  .

A picture from one of the headwalls where Upper Dipper turns into Big Dipper. This is rated as a Blue at Burke even though it is quite a steep pitch.

P.S. I feel that groomers should not be Black Diamonds. ;-)

have to agree with NEK and the other burke voters

if at burke, you would be silly to not launch down the dippers, the pitch and rolls in the trails make it probably my favorite "groomer" , you can get to the point of freaking yourself out a little its so good

Choices!

If there is groomed terrain on my first run I take that once or twice to get some heat into my 60+ years old muscles. If I don't, then I ski very stiffly and find it difficult to get a rhythm going. After the warm-up runs I am good to go.

This happened to me (one of the first chairs...). All there was was groomed trails though, no real choice (not like I'm complaining about untouched corduroy :)).

I was one of the first couple gondis at kmart last sunday and I headed directly to roundabout. I guess that means the answer is the narrow winding natural snow trail or the trees.

I always try to ski the natural stuff in the morning before it gets boney.
