Hows Alta looking now, either going there or the Bird Thursday after this storm if it produces
Alta is always better early season. It is low tide for sure. The last installment helped a lot. Only one snowmaking route down Collins, one snowmaking route "around the world" as we say (over in Albion Basin) and a couple routes down Wildcat. Off-snowmaking routes are variable, but people are getting after it nonetheless. They are close to opening Sugarloaf. They were making lots of snow last night and today.

Snowbird is a big "?". I imagine that they will only have Regulator to Bassakwards to Emma open. Good vert, but probably icy.

1) 11/15/24 Killington

2) 11/27/24 Sunday River

Got to the hill at 10:30. Not a ton of people but enough to make the Locke mid station a clusterf*ck between download stops and rider incompetence. Around 1 the crowd dissipated and became a lot more enjoyable the rest of the day. Snow was fun on T2. Took Cascade down at the end of the day which was skiable but definitely sketchy.

11/29 - killington powder day!

11/30 - waterville - really not that bad with only the upper mountain pods. You can string together an 1100 vertical run and they left a few things ungroomed plus also powdery shoulders along the trees. Lots of routes never bored. About to download and head for food and home. 11k vertical 8-1230

So I have skied both Alta and Snowbird in the last two days. Consistent with my experience, Alta is way better right now. Both in terms of quantity and quality. Snowbird is steeper and requires more snow. Snowbird right now is only Regulator Johnson down to Gadzoom, Bassakwards down to Big Emma/Dick Bass Highway. There are some other areas open right now--namely around the new Wilbere Chair--but it is bumped up and low tide. That said, Cat Crew Cutoff, Harper's and Harper's East all skied pretty well. Snowmaking runs were pretty scratchy.

At Alta they are running off of Sugarloaf (two routes off the top of it merging into one and then two near Alf's), one run off Sunnyside (which oddly enough is not yet connected to Sugarloaf/Alf's), two or three main routes down Collins and two routes down Wildcat. Off-groomed offerings are not bad right now because Alta has more grass than rock.

Right now Alta has the most open of the Cottonwood areas.

Yeah im just going to hold off for another storm don’t want to burn an Alta day this early. Hopefully the snow returns soon and this high pressure goes away asap

Not looking good. We are still way too low for a dry spell. If this goes on too long then it is going to really hurt the Christmas Holidays.

Belle got another 10" on top of the storm last week. But it rained at the end of the precip the night before and it got colder as the day went on. Natural snow was crusty and a bit heavy.

From 9 to about 10:30 the snow guns were on blasting out wet snow that skied better as it got colder and more traffic.

And there was plenty of traffic; there were bodies everywhere

They turned off most of the guns at about 11:15 and the skiing got pretty good as it got colder and the snow drained. Hoping for decent terrain expansion next week. Might take a trip to K, pretty tired of the same few trails even though conditions are very good.

5) 12/3 Belleayre. Very good, even a bit open on natural. Blowing snow on much more terrain. Was planning to go back today but it's 5 degrees at the house. I'm too old for that.

I'm stuck at 0 for at least 6 more days and maybe longer.

Day 1 should have been yesterday but I've been getting progressively sicker so I went this morning to get checked out and...pneumonia.

Hoping to be better by next Tuesday but mother nature may rain on that parade quite literally.

Right where I want to be
Loon today was fun. Angel street was the run of the day.
Saw the ghost of Loon (son calls him that)today on the side of angel. He was sitting snapping up twigs. No foot prints leading up to him.😳

Belle made a lot of snow since last Friday. Deer Run open top to bottom and coverage is remarkable. They made snow t2b on Onteora. I was riding the lift with Steve the marketing guy when he got the call that the rope was dropped. Lapped that 6x or so. The right side of Seneca continuing down under the Gondi was lots of fun. Open naturals were good. Great day.

Somehow I never run into zyk.

Thought about going again today but punted that to Friday. Thinking a bunch more terrain will be open then. Also planning my first K trip next Mon/Tues.

Was there when they dropped rope on Onteora talking to Jen about the learning area. Maybe tomorrow and or Friday depending on the roads.

Someday we will meet...
