Yeah I’ve never liked Solitude. I’ve only skied Snowbasin once. I might be going Thursday with a buddy.
If you like long groomers and get a bluebird day Snowbasin is going to be great.

Solitude has Honeycomb Canyon plus a couple of other spots. I thought it was really best as a place to stay to ski back and forth from both resorts.

Solitude and Snowbasin are both lame compared to all the other options in the area. I did like how empty Solitude was when I did visit, but IKON ruined even that.

I think lame is overdoing it but agree out of the 5 resorts they are the bottom 2. I'll say that if you ski Honeycomb Canyon down diagonally to the Honeycomb return lift, ride that up, then finish it off with Queen Bess and are lucky enough to do it in powder it's as good as it gets anywhere for a long somewhat sustained tree run.

Looks like 12"+ in a lot of the North country the last couple days, and the next storm should start as snow. Just booked in Stowe for Sunday and Monday night. Planning on stopping at Okemo on the way up Sunday...looks to be kind of cool and cloudy but I could use a couple hours of groomers to get back in shape anyway lol. Gonna go to Jay Monday, and then Stowe Tuesday. Looks like 40s and 50s both days.

I skied 7 days in March, 3 of which were a weekend trip to Bromley. March 17th was my last day. The warmth and rain after that ended what was a fantastic season a couple weeks earlier than usual. Not counting my days during the summer and fall at Big Snow I skied 34 days this past season and am most likely done for the season skiing outdoors. I am planning to take my daughter to Big Snow on Saturday.

March was also my 17th month in a row with at least one ski day. I am now keeping track of my season as 7/1 through 6/30.

This may earn me a permanent ban, but my last day was Sunday. Skied 50 days, all at Stratton. And it was a really terrific season. I never felt the need to drive to K until into march and kinda ran out of gas by then so never used those days. We were planning a trip to Sunday River but didn’t. The 2.5 mile drive to the sun bowl became reactionary. The better half got into the upper 20’s, and really advanced, we had some great days. Next year our granddaughter will be 18 months before the end of the season so she’ll get her first taste.

I worked on conditioning from Labor Day through Thanksgiving, and only made it back home a few weeks so limited conditioning during the season.. felt the difference when the spring conditions hit. Next season I may join the fitness center for 3 months.

Very satisfied with everything.

Reggae weekend. Very strange conditions around the mountain. The snow that was falling seemed to stick around King Pine which skied great all day. Skyline and Superquad trails turned into this weird mash potato but not completely soft snow. Ventured around to check some glades but didn’t find anything in great shape so stuck to the trails. Skied till last chair and checked the music out for a bit before heading to the ski house.

Wow! What a surprisingly epic day! Leaving from Sugarloaf it was pretty dreary and wet there. Once I got to the base of Saddleback it felt and looked like winter again! Some quick warm up runs off the Rangeley were already skiing better than the day prior. Headed for the summit and found great snow in all the glades plus Muleskinner. Pretty much stayed at the Kennebago all day till about 3 and spent the last couple hours lapping Professor and Thrombosis. Definitely my best day in Maine this season.

Lost out on about 4 weeks of skiing due to several scheduling conflicts and some car issues. Was almost ready to end my ski season and pick up the fishing rods. Then it snowed 12" at the top of Belle and I couldn't go Saturday. So I was determined to get there for closing day yesterday. Despite the clouds and frequent dense fog the skiing was excellent and the conditions were a real treat. Skied everything going across the ridge from Deer Run to Winnisook. The snow which was still plentiful was dense and heavy but I got into it and had a great day. Pics from Saturday thanks to Cornhead:

Skied on Sunday with Bob. We both stopped in to see Scotty on the way home. So stoked after my day I'm heading up to K this Wed - Fri.

We got 90 days each in at our first year at Snowbasin before they closed. I wish it had a little more elevation but will gladly trade the lower snow totals for lower crowds. We have 1 Solitude and 2 Brighton days. 93 total days so far. We should hit 100 plus. So far UT is everything I hoped it would be.

Any word as to if Snowbasin does an encore this weekend? Snow is in the forecast.

1. 12/10: Mt Snow - Groomers in the freezing drizzle. 18.5k
2. 12/25 Mt Sunapee - Fast groomers on Christmas. 15k
3. 1/9 Pats Peak - Windy groomers and some bumps. 12.1k
4. 1/12 Bolton - Late day woods. 7.4k
5. 1/13 Stowe - Terrific soft woods and nats. 40.7k
6. 1/14 Stowe - 9" powder, untouched Liftline, deep woods. 20.9k
7. 1/20 Magic - 4" powder, first tracks Talisman and Sorcerer, thin but soft. 21.9k
8. 1/23 Crotched - Night skiing cut short by lift failure. 4.9k
9. 1/26 Okemo - Very thin trees, fun nats, big midday squall. 31.6k
10. 1/28 Waterville - Couple inches from squall, empty bubble laps. 25k
11. 2/2 Jay - Bit of a struggle with variable snow, nats more fun than woods. 20k
12. 2/3 Stowe - 4" refresh overnight, woods skiing gorgeous. 30.1k
13. 2/9 Ragged - 9" powder but late arrival had me picking up the scraps. First time there, glades are terrific! 16.7k
14. 2/10 Stowe - 7" powder, woods deep, bashing powder bumps on Liftline, exhausting day. 30.9k
15. 2/11 Stowe - 2" of the softest snow I've ever seen was the perfect topping on the already soft and deep base. Like skiing in feathers. Woods amazing. 33.1k
16. 2/23 Middlebury - Main summit lift broken down, arrived late and only other summit access closed at 3 so quantity was limited. Some crust in backside woods. Liked what I saw for terrain. Day was a dud but would love to go back. 4.3k
17. 2/24 Stowe - Only managed 5 runs because I was under the weather. Woods full of hero snow. 10.3k
18. 2/25 Stowe - Spring preview with manky woods but nice soft bumps and groomers. Knee started to hurt and rain moved in so called it early. 15.6k

19. 4/13 Okemo - Cool and foggy but soft spring snow and couple areas of seeded bumps. 15.4k
20. 4/14 Jay - Perfect spring day, woods and nats mint. 19k
21. 4/15 Stowe - Forecasted rain didn't arrive until afternoon, making for another perfect spring morning. Silky corn in woods, soft and sometimes adventurous nats. 21.7k

Sad that March ended up being a goose egg, but weather and time off just didn't work in my favor. But these last 2 days were just the absolute best of spring in the deep northern VT snow. My season is down to a day or two at Killington.

I've been on the fence about my pass situation for next year. Did I want to switch back to Ikon or keep riding with Epic? I think my decision is pretty easy at this point. I skied 8 days at Stowe this year, and other than my childhood days at Wachusett and my college days at Burke I don't think I've ever skied that many days in a season anywhere else. It is more or less my home mountain now. Affordable lodging, good restaurants, and most importantly IMO the best overall ski experience in the east. And I still feel like I've barely scratched the surface with the place.
