So I was having an awesome time with my summer-time insomnia and watching the nightly news at 4 in the morning when a story about this came on.

Why would anyone think this was a good idea? What's the thought process behind making the decision to divide a fairly popular show by race? At this point all I can say is what...the...f

Because they're betting that folks like you will start talking about it. It's all about creating a buzz. I'll admit that I watch Survivor and enjoy the show. Each season they come up with some sort of twist. As they're in their 13th season, they must be running low on ideas.

To get more people to watch. That's all that matters to TV execs.

ABC cancelled a show about a neighborhood in Texas where the homeowners in the neighborhood got to choose who would move into a vacant house. The show provided the list of prospective new owners, and it included a family of color, a gay couple, a muslim couple, etc. White folks weren't on the list.

Pretty racy concept. I thought it was a great idea, more for the cultural interaction than for the viewership. I don't think most people are ready for that though.

Heh. We're doing a project on ethics in marketing (I didn't realize there was any to discuss!), and my group's specific topic is buzz marketing. Here ya go.

I understand that it's an attempt to get more people to watch, just seems to me like even tv execs would be above this. Guess I assumed wrong.

Hard to be above anything when you dwell under rocks.

Imagine the talk if any one tribe dominates all the competitions, or if they all end up in a tie in all of them.

there was complaints about racial bias on the show...so they are doing it to shut everyone up....might make things worse....things like...

"ooh see look the black team is soo much better than the asian team"

In the end ...they all have to combine and only one triumphs.....

I too like the show...

Survivor and Amazing Race both..

They should totally promote it as a racial cage match. Four races enter, one race leaves. Shouldn't they really have an Indian team, too, though? I mean, let's be fair, there are a billion of them, don't they deserve some representation?

Or maybe they could make the team sizes consistent with world population. There'd be 50 people on the Asian team, 15 Caucasians, 10 Africans, and 1 Hispanic guy.

Team sizes are estimates based on absolutely no research whatsoever.

I should be there representing my own unique, superior race.
