A couple of months ago I had to work in Wilkes Barre for a week. I have to imagine Montage doesn't need Indy to drive business. There's enough of a population center right there to have a healthy business. I'd probably be an Elk ski if I lived in that area, but I bet the average local goes for the closer Montage

The good thing is both are easily accessible. The expert terrain at montage is pretty good for PA. That slow ass lift to the top to get full vertical is brutally slow

Just my opinion but I have never been a fan of Montage. Not fond of the layout, the lifts or the parking. The last time I was there (back when son was racing) the Long Haul lift which is their t2b lift wasn’t operational and we met someone in the know who said they were more interested in real estate then fixing the lift. Not a good impression. Elk is definitely the best in NE PA but it also has some quirky rules and old infrastructure. The lodge is old and cramped.

Personally from my experience skiing in NE PA for the better part of 30-40 years I would rank them as 1. Elk, 2 Blue then 3 Camelback.
Just find CBK to have more trails ( even though they are somewhat short) and a better lift system and lodge then Montage.

The Midland area at Montage with its tents, firepits, shipping container food trucks and concert stage is a cool and unique experience

I'm a little disappointed about Montage. Went there for the first time since high school last year. Really enjoyed it and figured we'd go back for a day this year. Guess it's back to Jack Frost on "off weekends".

Erik Mogensen Facebook post today.

(cough cough) If you are not on the waitlist, and still need to secure an Indy Pass for the next season, I would make it happen and get on that list in the next day. My mom is almost done editing the press release for spelling and grammar...

When I went this year they had a decent live band and that whole area was packed. Great vibe. The lodge restaurant was also very busy. As crowded as it was, the lift lines were very manageable. I'll miss my once a season Indy visit.

Just curious ( we are on 3 rd year of Indy). Has anyone who wanted to get a pass ever NOT been able to get one? They always say limited passes, then join the waitlist. Then “maybe” we will reopen sales. But is this just marketing? Will everyone on the waitlist get a pass eventually? Or are some people genuinely not able to buy?

I'm not sure, but Adironrider is probably right.

What I do know is I meet plenty of people that miss the deadline and don't bother getting on the waiting list. They just buy Epic or iKon instead and say they'll try for Indy again next year.

So, I'm not sure their marketing strategy is helping them if that's what it all truly is.

I think it actually hinders their stated objective of increasing season pass sales at their partner resorts. I can go online right now and buy an Ikon or Epic pass and have access to those networks. Or, I can buy a pass with a whole bunch of reciprocals like Cooper or Ashland or Diamond Peak. No wait list anxiety. I buy the pass, I get the partners. Indy likes to say: "buy a season pass to your local mountain, add on indy for a discount and you'll have this huge network of great places to ski.". Then, they make it so you might not actually get to buy the add-on.

Actually, Montage is never really crowded. Even on busy weekends the lift lines are short and it takes much longer for the trails to get skied off if they do at all.
I would have thought that the Indy would have benefited them by giving people from the Philly and NYC/NJ metro areas a reason to drive by the Pocono areas. I met a lot of people on the lifts who were there for the first time due to the Indy Pass and said they enjoyed it.
