Mid-season Boot/Gear Care

How do you take care of your boots during the season? I know some folks pull the liners right out of the boot. Is that really necessary each time? I normally stick them (buckled) in the basement near the furnace and that's where they live (outside the ski bag) in between trips during the season. In fact much of my gear is simply spread out in the same area to dry out. Usually the night before I head somewhere else, I'll pack it all up. What's your approach?

When I saw skiboot with my several seasons old Nordica Grand Prix - liners fairly packed out - he told me to leave the liners in and lay the leg opening towards a small fan. Also not to heat them (due to the custom footbeds).

I use boot dryers...low heat, high circulation.

Every 4 weeks or so I pull the liners out and take the footbeds out of the liners and let everything dry completely. Otherwise, the stink foot is atrocious.

I always store my boots in a cool dry place. I keep them away from heat sources.

I pull my liners and foot beds out every time and put them near, but not next to, a heater to dry out. Seems to be working for me so far...

I have a bag that the boots go on the side of, not in. So they start drying on the way home and I just leave them attached to the bag. I pull out my pants and hang them to dry.

Well after i leave them in the car to freeze a few times I get pretty focused on bringing them in to dry out. Though with my brand new boots i just shelled out for I might be a little more focused on care.

As for other gear- I try to dry in normal temps as it seems like if i dry with really warm air i get a little funk going.

i pull the liners if i am skiing back to back days since i do not have a dryer. i generally pull the liner every day on my AT boots since they get rather moist due to sweet and get rank if not aired out right away. buckle the boots when not in use. i don't really think of it as boot care but rather practical approaches to things that could bother me such as wet feet or odor.

Me too, only my dryer is no heat. It keeps circulating cool air and that drys them out well. I also never put my boots near any heat.

I have one like this as well...in fact, it's battery operated and great for days I don't feel like lugging my boots home.

I put them in my locker with the battery boot dryer in them and the next day they are dry.

I pull out the boot liner afer every use. Snow always gets into the space bewteen the liner and the plastic shell. That's plenty of moisture to feed a mold population - not good.
I use the boot drier sticks (low heat source) in the liners, especially if I'm going ski a few consecutive days.

It's not that I'm so fastidous, but I think that my boots really need this procedure so they don't stink.

Some of my previous boots never really needed that level of attention.

I have soft boots, so maybe they breathe better. I don't do anything other than buckling them up to hold their shape. I just leave them in the car if I am skiing the next day. They warm up on the drive to the mountain.
