JD...awesome post about the AIG's history..I'll just add that Greenberg should be in jail but when your that rich and powerful you know how that goes.

I will say that Stowe has done something or should I say not done something that will forever have my respect. During a time when resorts were dividing trails with new names to boost their trail counts or putting a lower lift in to boost vert, Stowe is one the few who refused to go that way. They still have 47-49 trails, same as when I first skied there in the late 60's but if you look at the acreage it's pretty similar to the Bush. Props for that.

(I just erased this, not in a mood for a Sugarbush/Stowe debate), lol. To each his own.

Well, I read the original post and it was very fair. I'm not trying to open a debate, I was just trying to get a feel for why you think one is better than the other.

I love anythng North of KMART

So true. 'Bush, Stowe, Smuggs, Jay, they all have their attributes, but Stowe has one thing the other three lack......Traffic Jams...summer and winter, for that reason alone it can be a PITA.

Why does Stowe charge so much? Because they can.

I love the place, however, not enough to ski there without some type of discount. Actually, that's no different from anywhere else.

the stowe college season pass is cheaper than almost any big mountain's full season pass for an adult. once you graduate, you'll be looking at that $420 as a bargain. i would jump on $420 as a college student in a heart beat if i was going to college in burlington and had the money. it is consistent with their adult rates, about twice as much as most ski areas for a season pass.

I would also gladly pay $420 if I wasn't a college student and had a steady job. I have no income for 3/4 of the year. That said, I did end up paying more than that for ski passes anyways. I have a Sugarbush pass for $300 and an ASC Sun-Fri for $230 so I could ski at the Loaf over winter and spring break. Stowe's college pass is also blacked out for the Christmas and President's Day holiday weeks.

I'm not complaining really. Just saying that I can't personally justify going there when I can go to the Bush, Jay, or Smuggs for a fraction of the price. Obviously enough people feel differently to make it a viable business and good for them.

Stowe...I have skied it since the single chair days but, I haven't been back in several years. There are better deals to be had and it's obvious they are trying to deter anyone who doesn't meet their financial criteria from darkening their door step.

As has been previously stated, they are owned by parent company AIG. I am in the insurance business and consider them unscrupulous.

While you're at it, email Ferrari and complain about the cost of the F430.

I suspect you'll get the same results.

The difference is Ferrari hasn't made a career out of screwing people. AIG/Greenberg has
