Date(s) Skied: Sunday, 4/1/07, 9:45 am - 2:40 pm
Resort or Ski Area: Jiminy Peak, Hancock, MA
Conditions: Corn, slush, spring conditions, some edgeable ice. Temps starting near 40 and climbing to 50. Mostly sunny early to cloudy later.
Trip Report: Headed up to Jiminy with my father- and brother-in-law. Had a great spring skiing day. Jiminy is actually in pretty good shape with most of the trails having very good coverage. There were a few thin and narrow areas most notably West Way by the cliff and the very top of Whirlaway and Jericho.
Bumps on The Mogul Thing which were actually pretty fun and legitimate small bumps. Skier's right of the Foxes had the best bumps on the mountain. Lower Fox in particular had pretty tight and consistent lines. Lots of glare ice on the top of Upper. Some ice troughs here and there, but edgeable. I also found a great line right under the Q1 almost top to bottom on Whitetail up over the groomer lip. Jericho had some very nice snow skier's left. I also hit skier's right on the ungroomed. Thin but fun. Wild Turkey has a ton of snow.
The corn effect happened shortly after 11 am and that's when the rope on Cutter was dropped. Fun run, but widely spaced bumps. More like sweeping push piles. The bumps on the Foxes were much better. Jiminy still has a ton of snow and I had fun skiing up and over the groomer lip on the groomed runs. The mountain should easily make the middle of the month if they cat do some patchwork.
All in all a great spring day at Jiminy and an awesome way to kick off April!
