Top to bottom and right off the lift challenging terrain with low skier volume is better in my book than spending 10 minutes and wasting half the vertical getting to the challenge and then dealing with pushing myself back to the lifts. So I guess to rephrase my question, assuming both mountains are 100% open - can I get more challenging vertical in Magic or Kmart in a 5 hour period.

Well, it's the top half of Magic that's really challenging. Below that it's a bit of a runout, especially the skier's left side. The Red Chair isn't a screamer by any means, but it's not a slow dog either and you will not wait in a lift line. On a weekday you can probably get more steep vert at Killington off HSQs, but Magic has more of a vibe.

I think you're overanalyzing it. Magic and Killington about about as incomparable as you can get. If Magic has a good amount of natural snow, just give it a try. The mountain can use your patronage. Based on the preferences you posted in this thread, it's almost a guarantee that you will like it.

We are slowly fixing the off map/density issue of some/mosts of our trees. Maybe an Alpine Zone glade cutting day next summer??

Magic isn't really setup for green beginners or lower-intermediates, there's only a couple opittions.

Ascutney isn't really setup for advanced skiers.
