The blatant line cutter will always get shouted down,” Get back to the end of the line asshole”, “What are you special or something?”, but how about the polite lift line cutter?

The guy who says, “Excuse me can I get up with my friends?” then makes his way throw a bunch of people to get there. Everybody seems ok with that. My take is why can’t the friend(s) move off to the side and wait for him?

I remember Xmas week at WF about 4 kids making there way through the gondi line to get to 2 friends way in the front. They said excuse me and all that, but they where a pain in the ass making their way through. People seemed annoyed, but no one said anything including me.

Now if those same 4 kids skied down and tried to duck under the rope there would have been hell to pay. There seems to be an unwritten rule that if you have at least one friend further along in line then you it’s ok for any number of friends to cut by those in front to get to them.

I don’t like it, the friends should wait. What’s your take?

They should, but I'm a firm believer of picking your battles and I try hard not to sweat the little things in life. At the end of the day, it probably will not increase your wait time more than a chair, if that. Calling them out on it will only stress you out and teach them nothing. An asshole is an asshole. You just have to trust that karma will do its work.

I totally agree. Though it's not a phenomenon exclusive to lift lines and it bothers me every time I see it.

agreed, this is a much more regular occurrence at amusement parks

me, I'm typically riding singles line anyway

If they are courteous and so long as they aren't increasing my wait time (by making the group large enough to require an additional chair) I don't really care.

I would get annoyed if I saw it happening all day though.

its a numbers game...if there are 3 people up front and one joining them, no worries, let the one straggler through. If there's one up front and three trying to join, no way...front guy pulls over and waits. 2 and 2...they should wait too.

My take is that unless it's like a 5 year old kid or something or a really hot girl..liftline cutting is not acceptable. I'm a hypocrit though because at Blue mountain..me and a buddy sometimes cut in line with the race team..we usually just say...."There's our Team"..and shimmy up in the special ski patrol/lessons/instructor/raceteam line..I'm like a 10th year J1..lol

But the polite thing to do is wait for friends outside the liftline so they don't have to scramble through..and I don't see what the big deal in the friends farther ahead in line waiting for the straggler at the top..

What about saving your spot at the front of an early morning lineup on a powder day with your skis...while you use the bathroom and get coffee and a baconeggandsteeze sandwich..that's what some of the idiot locals do at Jackson Hole...

Just stick your skis out (and lock them up) the night before!

I'm a firm believer that if all your group isn't there, DON'T GET IN LINE. And if you're waiting for someone, you move back to them, not they move upto you!

That's what I told the old hippie at the front of the line and he was not amused..I almost got punched out for cutting in front of a half dozen pairs of skis with no owners in the singles line of the Jackson Hole gondola..they were like...WTF...I asked if the skis belonged to ghosts..lol..It would be cool if I could reserve my spot in the front of the line for concert tickets with a shoe..lol

I usually take a ski off and hit them upside the head if they try to get past me. Ski patrol tends to get annoyed by that tactic when they're trying to get be to respond to an accident though.

Seriously, it sucks, but what are you going to do? I agree that groups should wait until they're all there before getting in line, or just wait for each other at the top.

I suppose it's more of a concern for the guy in the singles line getting bumped...unless it's the single chair at MRG.
