I didn't think the other poll told the full side of the story. Have you ever not bought a ski that you might have otherwise likely bought because you demoed it and decided that you did not like it?

Yes. I thought the Volkl Mantra would be a good ski for me for soft snow in the East. Like you Steve, once I tried it, I realized it wasn't quite what I expected. Still a nice ski but not what I was looking for to fill the hole in my quiver. I then went on to demo the Volkl Gotama. I loved it as a soft snow ski & ended up buying it. I'm really glad I did because I love my Gotamas. Based on all the hype & ski magazine reviews, however, I was convinced that the Mantra was what I needed. I'm glad I demoed & sorted it all out!

Yup.
Rossi BW2 because they were like dead fish under my feet.
A ski should inspire some kind of animated sound if its going to be allowed to grace my quiver. ;)

The Rossi..........totally uninspirational. :(

my favorite ski sounds are a big ass logging truck barrelling down a windy backroad or a two stroke dirtbike. gotta have sound effects!

I would say Nordica's. I went in planning to love them, but every pair made me less and and less impressed. They are great skis on paper..I just don't ski on paper. Goode is another, having access to them at a very reasonable price, I have tried to like them, I just don't like the feel on the snow, they ski like synthesised music sounds.

Many times. I've headed either to a demo day or spent the day demo'ing from a shop where I had an idea about what I wanted to buy, then usually I'll get on that pair of boards first, and then quickly after the first few turns, I've known that myself and that ski's relationship wasn't going to be anymore than a "one run stand" ;)

When I ski the bros they inspire a freight train sound. WhoooooooWhooooooo!
The Olympia Firefox's inspired a Dive Bomber sound!

Gotta love inspiration!

the logging truck is for high speeds in crud or cut up pow...blasting through stuff, running stuff over, etc...two stroke is more for mid radius turns in bumpy, but not zipperline, terrain...and I forgot to mention the fighter jet sounds for big high speed gs turns...sometimes, unfortunately, the theme song from Top Gun creeps into my head...messes up the mojo.
I've skied past some of my buddies while in logging truck mode...they wondered what the hell was going on in my head...I think I was engine braking when I went by them.
