Mountain Creek.

Close behind, in no particular order, would be Jay, MRG, Sugarbush, and Stowe.

What makes them the best?

A combination of things.
Basically it comes down to the fact that it's a sick Mtn., never crowded, it has bowls you can hike to above the lift, and the back side never gets skiied. There are other good mtns up north, but are really not worth the drive.

Seriously? I would have thought MRG with Paradise and such would be rated higher. I've always liked the trees I've skied at Killington, but I never realized they were some of the best in the East.

South Side of Chicago BOOM!
you guys have to get away from the turon mtns. Ascutney mt's trees hold snow for at least three day after a storm.
While Ktons and the likes trees will be tracked out b4 10n am.
Give Ascutney a try.
(note the trais there kind of blow but the tree skiing is fantastico)

I used to love the Doc Dempsey Glade on Madonna at Smuggs but I was up there last spring and they cut out so many trees it doesn't look that fun anymore. Some of the best tree skiing I've done lately has been at Sunday River and believe it or not Bretton Woods. Gore had a nice long glade off their HST when I was there.
