Definitely the right decision on driving to Magic today. Words can not describe but I will do my best. After a harrowing 3+ hour drive, including two pairs of white knuckles from a virtually unplowed I-91  got to Magic at 8:45am and hooked up with roark. Love that Magic opens at 8am on the weekend. Just did not have it in me to wake up at 4:15 to make it happen.
Magic is "claiming" 6" but I call MAJOR bull shit. We were skiing boot deep untracked all day. 6" is just barely over my buckles. Someone go tell Magic's management that their snow reporter isn't playing with a full length ruler. Boot deep untracked was the rule from open until noon time. Untracked everywhere with no line and no traffic. Sah-weet! Everything but Master and Green Line were hammerable. Knee deep and deeper drifts were everywhere including on occasion down the entire side of some trails. Unreal. This is the best 6" of snow I have ever skied.
Base damage was minimal with no core shots. Probably would hardly have been any damage except for Green Line and an ill advised tree shot. Dropped Red Line next to last run which may have also scratched up the bases a bit. Lined up for the Ladies Tee on the big cliff but threw caution to the wind and went for the huck to successful results. Forgot how fun fun that trail is with an audience so close to the action. Lots of drops have not been filled in yet so I was taking air left and right. Mucho fun.
Hard to decide on a best run of the day. First tracks down Black Line to Lucifer was insanely good but it went by like a blur as I was charging hard. Completely forgot about hte big drop off halfway down Lucifer. Major air stuck, nice. Black Line to Heart was one of my better combos (roark... you missed that one late in the day) which was great including an untracked line down Black Line at 3pm to close my day. Gonif with some untracked shots at 10:30ish was sensational as well. And first tracks on Slide along with roark was sweet followed by much knee deep goodness on Wizard.
Pictures to follow. The nuts to say the least. Amazing how much work and improvement has been made in the past couple years since my last visit to Magic. Sweet. Left the mountain with TONS of tracked up powder still ready for the taking. Should ski great straight through the week and beyond with more snow coming.
