Blue mountain 2.11/09..spring weather..some PASRs in the house..

Hey All,

I'm back from a fun session at Blue mountain. I arrived at 330PM and it was 58 degrees under party sunny skys. I was on my fat twin-tips for the first time since Jackson Hole. They skied through the piles of applesauce like it was packed powder. I skied a few runs with Jim who was rocking the one piece yellow ski suit. I was wearing a sweatshirt over a polo shirt and I was pretty comfortable..no gloves..gloves are for gapers when it's over 50 degrees. They didn't regroom anything due to the warm temperatures. After a few runs I saw Zaldon and skied with him. I found Lazy Mile and Paradise to be the best with the softest applesauce and Razors had lots of crust showing and thicker applesauce. Challenge was closed for the race team. Crowds were light initially but there were a decent amount of school groups and at one point the liftline organizer was out doing his thang.

At around 540PM me and Zaldon were ready to leave but we ran into AngryHugo and decided to ski a few more runs. I skied 3 runs with AngryHugo including Dreamweaver, Paradise and Main Street. Lower Main Street was rough..I would need some Pontoons to get through those uber big crud piles. Oh well Just Another Day in Paradise...16 runs for 16,800 vertical feet and I left at 620PM. When I left the temperature was down to 48 degrees and the snow was starting to set up. It looks like the theme for tomorrow will be cooler temperatures with the big bad wind gusting over 40mph..oh well I enjoyed the spring skiing while it was here..now back to icy death..

Sounds like a fun session, no red coats hassling you today? for your vert feet count, do you measure it with a computer or just calculate it based on number of runs and published data from the mountain?

gloves are for gapers when it's over 50 degrees.

I would argue the opposite is true.

Sounds like a fun session, no red coats hassling you today? for your vert feet count, do you measure it with a computer or just calculate it based on number of runs and published data from the mountain?

No redcoats...and I used to use an Avocet vertical foot watch which was pretty accurate but I'm OCD when it comes to stats so I just keep track the vert in my head. The 6-pack at Blue is 1052 vertical feet so I just count it as 1050 vert and that's pretty much the only lift I use at Blue..when I'm at Jackson Hole or a larger resort..I carry a trailmap and pen and put a checkmark next to each lift. Anyway my best vert year was when I was a senior in High School and I skied over 2.6 million vertical feet..back then my sessions were alot longer..two seasons ago I hit 2.4 million vert and 119 ski days..I'll be happy to be close to 2 million vert and 100 ski days when my season wraps up late spring or summer..

I'll risk falling and cutting up my hands over having sweaty hands..Zaldon took a spill on Main Street earlier in just a t-shirt and no gloves and it hurt...and I didn't ski Barneys Bumps..the bumps were a bit tight for my 110 underfoot 193 length skis..but GS turns in crud is...:beer:

It doesn't matter..I ski as much as I want..if I want 120 days and 3 million vert I can have that...Blue mountain is open until 10PM everyday so I could still be racking up vert now..when I went away to college, I stopped keeping track of vert because skiing mainly the woods at Stowe, it wasn't apples to apples..

50k of groomers is easier on my legs than 25k of woods/bumps..My 60k+ day at Jackson Hole two seasons ago was sa weet..whew..do they have a 24 hours of Sundown event? I know they have it at Greek Peak..but if I were to do a 24 hour event..it would definitely need to be at a place with a high speed lift..
