Golf

There's been more than one occasion when I've skied or boarded in the morning and played golf in the afternoon. That sure wasn't the case this year as I broke my ankle on the second to last GS run at the NASTAR Nationals in Steamboat on March 27th. The cast was replaced with a "cam boot" but I'm still on crutches for another week and a half. Nevertheless, my golf league starts tomorrow and I'll be hitting the range tonight. I leaned my crutches against the garage last night and took some swings with my 1 iron. Backswing balanced on one foot was surprisingly stable but the follow through was pretty wimpy.

The 1 iron is retired - that's why it's in the garage. Like pretty much everyone else these days, I've gone with the rescue clubs.

A dozen years ago my 2 iron was my "money club". My two best rounds ever (71 both times) saw only one driver with the bulk of the tee shots coming from my 2 iron. Today I don't even carry a 3 iron.

Phew----for a second I was thinking you were God. Actually a guy I play with STILL carries a 1 iron and can hit it. When he loses his driver that'swhat he'll go to.

I went to the range yesterday and hit balls for the first time since the ankle was broken. Balancing on just the left leg wasn't as big an impediment as I thought. I really didn't lose any distance but everything was hit with a pronounced draw. League starts tonight. I'd better aim to the right!

I could see golf having a draw to those that enjoy gentle cruisers. It's more a relaxing (sometimes) way to get outside and do something than a way to generate excitement.

One could say the same about road biking... ;)

I picked number one, golf never interested me. I do enjoy mini-golf though and enjoy playing it a few times a year.

there's only one way to golf:

The Official Blackhaus Golf Rules (TM):

1) The outright winner of any hole takes a shot

2) The outright loser of any hole takes a shot

3) A tie results in a social

4) Par 3's - Closest to the pin gives a shot (if no player is at least on the fringe of the green after his first shot, all players take a shot)

5) The winner of 2 consecutive holes gives a shot (this supersedes rules 1 & 2)

6) The winner of 3 consecutive holes gives 2 shots (and so on...)

7) There's a mandatory shot at the beginning, the turn and the end

actually, probably not....those rules were well-honed over countless rounds of blackhaus golf between players of very different abilities. over the course of 18 holes everyone gets a decent, thought not excessive, buzz, but no one can get slammed.

blackhaus golf. the true "beautiful game".

I'm about a once every other year golfer. Usually involves a bachelor party and beer...don't have too many unmarried friends left though...and no divorces yet, so not heading into round 2. My clubs are Allied Mastes from 1988. I'll probably golf more in 30 years.

I've done this before with some friends who played at 6 am......buzzing by 7:30, done with 18 by 9 am.....waiting around the putting green until the bar opened at 10.......then went on to open the strip joint down the road at 11:30.....oh what a day, all before noon!! Fond memories!

Hell Yeah..I like playing golf early in the morning..my Dad and his golf buddies like to sleep in, read the paper, drink their coffee, take a 30 minute crap, practice putting, stretch, practice chipping and then tee off at the crack of 10AM and then it takes 5 hours to play..so lately I've only been playing with my Dad if it's first thing in the AM because I like to play a 3 hour round...

i get out enough times and have been playing long enough, but it never got me going as much as skiing/riding has. i get a lots of adrenaline from skiing/riding. in a sense, i admit that i am an adrenaline junky. i don't get my adrenaline pumping with golf. i try to keep up, though. i love hanging out with my buddies and they all golf. when it comes to a round of golf with my buddies, my wife never complains. played 4 rounds of golf over 3 days 2 weeks ago with my old school buddies to kick the season off. it was such a blast, which is mostly why i golf.
