The New Sundown Thread

I do want to hit up Sundown one of these days. I'd also like to meet some of the AZ crew there. The way it would be most practical for me would be to hit it for an afternoon or evening on the way north. Do you guys(and gals) hit it on Friday's or is that school city and should be avoided?

I love moguls, but at 49 I couldn't take the jumps in the middle of the course so the comps are out of my league.

Friday nights are possible. We tend to get together on Wednesday nights. But often times the night get shifted around based on weather and personal schedules.

Friday nights are historically the busiest nights due to school groups and such, but it's not outside the realm of possibility for AZers to be there on a Friday night.

I caught a couple of Friday night dumps over the past 2 seasons. And by dump I mean snow... Kids usually clear out by 7pm and the place gets quiet, IMO.

Any night the crowds usually mostly disperse by 7 or 8, but there are a few school groups that stay later on Friday, so it's still busier than other nights. Also, if it was really snowing (dumping) then most of the school groups probably canceled.

fwiw, i'm right behind u, b 45 this season. don't let the jumps be the reason you don't do the comp.

1. they aren't as bad as they look
2. several people just ski around them
3. others just absorb the jump and roll over it like a big bump

the comps are a lot of fun.

like gmcunni said, the bumps really arent that big or deep. The airs are avoidable if you just want to enter and try it out. No one cares what we look like off them cause none of us can do anything off them anyway. Except for downhill04, and he nearly checked out on us.

Also, in the January comp, the winner was 43, 2nd place dude was 35 and 3rd place was 65, or however old 180 is. In the march comp, the winner was 48, 2nd place was 36 and 3rd place was 40. Not exactly spring chickens! If you dont do it this year, you'll only be a year older when you do. or however that quote goes.

Agreed, the comps are a lot of fun. The kickers scare me, but I still enter. I couldn't imagine anyone absorbing the kickers and rolling over them though.. :roll:

Exactly. He told me it wasn't worth the risk (to him) to do the kickers and miss out on skiing good spring bumps the rest of the season so he skis around them. If you know you're not going to win anyway, why not?

Sure- I can probably afford to re-outfit you in a few pair of sweat/wind pants and a hoodie or two.... However, the Sundown bet might cost me more than your season long clothing allowance...

180 made a few trips to sundown last year and he posts here, so i had to exclude him. He's on a whole 'nother level then me.

Employee benefits are based on the # of hours worked. When I worked there, I only had enough hours for a night pass, but it was good any night of the week. It makes sense to reward people based on how much they're doing in return. My going to school full-time at night this year is problematic both in employment for him and skiing for both of us but we'll figure it out. However, I'm still a poor student this year.
