Things looked so promising mid-month. Now back to reality. I'm a little disappointed, but not really frustrated. More mountain biking and I'll start seriously thinking about skiing again in a few weeks...

No, too upset about campaign signs... ;)

Seriously, I'm not upset and certainly not frustrated. I didn't have much hope of skiing in Oct anyway. See what happens when you aim low like I do. 8)

Not at all. I'm grateful--I need the kids outside the house right now!!!! ;)

I am all for colder temps but I don't want too much natural snow on the ground....not til December. I have a race to run on Nov 28th and I'd rather not do it in YakTrax and winter gear!

I got my fix last weekend...

I could have skied this weekend too, so I'm a bit disappointed by the weather, but after this weekend, I won't have a chance to get out until Nov 14th / 15th, so I'm not that frustrated by it.

I do hope the weather gets cold quick though so that I can have some decent choices when we get to mid november. (I've gotten spoiled by the past couple years at SR)

More often than not you guys tend to get similar weather to what we have here out west, it just comes softer and about a week later. Its been rainy and relatively warm (50+) in the valley here for the past two weeks, after a week of winter weather just like you guys had.

October skiing is a bonus, but you have to know that Indian Summer is coming eventually. Even out here a 10000 feet its still bare ground. If we cant get open (even if there werent forest service lease issues) it wouldnt be possible, tough to think its possible back east.

No, I have a girlfriend.

Oh, skiing? Wasn't really planning on getting out this month anyway so I'm cool. I've been busy fondling my new skis ...

I had no expectations of skiing in October so I'm not disappointed. Three weeks left of soccer season and expected Sugarbush opening on Nov 21st

Not really last Sunday was great, Friday was fun to start the season.

Sat and Sunday I will get wet, but still ski this weekend. All bonus days as far as I am concerned. It will suck, casue the weather will eat at the good base, but its what you get in October.

This is really becoming the reality of modern NE skiing/riding these last few years. We get a moderate cold snap mid/late October that lets a couplef players get open (briefly) and a few more test their guns, but not open. Then some warmth shows up and what looks like cold for the week after doesn't materialize to the extent that the early weather models think, and we sit and wait until mid November for some regular cold air to finally get here and allow for a massive just before Thanksgiving snowmaking assault to occurr.

If anything the efficiency and power of some modern snowmaking systems makes things worse because they CAN get a trail or two open very quickly, thus increasing the stoke and then mother nature takes the fun away for a few weeks :(

if this was Dec or later it would be frustrating..besides, I'm on a 25mile tether as the wife is due any day now so I couldn't get up to the River anyway.

Not at all. Great first day last Friday at Sunday River and looking forward to some soggy turns on Saturday. Any year where day 2 is planned for October 24th is a great start to the season in my book.

Not at all.

Didn't plan on October skiing anyway, just a bonus if it had actually happened.

Skiing this past weekend was a treat. Most years I don't get going until the 2nd or 3rd week of November.

75%-80% of my days most years come after the 1st of the year anyways.
