google maps says Hartford to Jay Peak = 4 hours + 19 minutes. Anyone know how accurate that is? I'm formulating backup plans for my May 1st outing and trying to figure out if Jay is doable as a day trip.

That's closer than I thought it was. Sounds like it's right on the edge of a doable day trip.
Long drive for possibly a couple trails on stateside at that point unless we get a cold snap and more snow in late April up North!
If you can swing it perhaps a drive up the night before would work for ya? .
Lyndon Motor Lodge (30 seconds off Rt 91) is ~ $50/night. Clean, adequate place. It's 40 min from Jay. Leave Friday night after work and the Saturday ride home will be relatively painless.

Grandpa Grunts is about 10 mins from the mtn and a real cool place. I think it was $25 a person and on weekends it comes with a awesome breakfast.
might want to check in with Jay Peak itself, last I heard they were practically giving the rooms away
yeah, my old limit was 4 hours for a day trip but i'd consider 5 hours if it means i can ski in May.
but as Sotto said, ride home will suck
