google maps says Hartford to Jay Peak = 4 hours + 19 minutes. Anyone know how accurate that is? I'm formulating backup plans for my May 1st outing and trying to figure out if Jay is doable as a day trip.

From new milford it takes five. I have done it once, but the drive home was a drag!

That's closer than I thought it was. Sounds like it's right on the edge of a doable day trip.

yeah, my old limit was 4 hours for a day trip but i'd consider 5 hours if it means i can ski in May.

but as Sotto said, ride home will suck

How about your legs? Can you share driving? I made my longest day trip this year, Cos Cob, CT to Pico, alone. Just under 4 hours, but my legs were so weak I skied horrible all day and quit early.
(Actually not a day trip, I stayed over and skied Sunday at Sugarbush, which was much better.)

I made it in 4 hours once from Glastonbury. That was flying behind the Mercedes ahead of me. We were doing 80+ all the time and close to 90 down the hills. So, to get a full day your leaving by 5 am. Long drive for possibly a couple trails on stateside at that point unless we get a cold snap and more snow in late April up North!

I would say that's about right. It's 3hrs 45 minutes from my house in Easthampton, MA, which is 12 minutes off the Noho exit of 91.

If you can swing it perhaps a drive up the night before would work for ya? We do a weekend trip up there and we've found that it's SOOO much better to do that drive the night before (usually leave my house around 8:00pm), that way even if you don't get there until midnight, you're not first driving long hours right before you ski. That time of night the highway is empty, but Troopers are on the prowl....

That would make the drive a shade longer than Boston to Jay which googlemaps says is 4 hours and 7 minutes (same time it gives for Boston to Loaf). I usually daytrip Jay and the Loaf but I'm a weirdo who loves driving long distances. I'd say go for it. Imagine the look on your officemate's faces when you show up on Monday with a goggle tan.

Lyndon Motor Lodge (30 seconds off Rt 91) is ~ $50/night. Clean, adequate place. It's 40 min from Jay. Leave Friday night after work and the Saturday ride home will be relatively painless.

Grandpa Grunts is about 10 mins from the mtn and a real cool place. I think it was $25 a person and on weekends it comes with a awesome breakfast.

might want to check in with Jay Peak itself, last I heard they were practically giving the rooms away

Staying at the Jay peak hotel until April 19th is a steal. $59 per person in double occupancy includes:
Ski ticket
Hotel
Dinner
Breakfast

I am going tomorrow and Tuesday.

Check their website under lodging specials, brokedown palace.

Best ski deal I have ever found. And no, I have no association, just a broke skier.

there's a really nice nap spot off exit 7 on 91South for the ride home. I've done it as a day trip no less than 20 times. its do-able... and it makes all the really close trip ski areas that much more enjoyable
