Who doesn't want to share an intimate moment like this?

This photo taken on Friday Jan. 17, 2014, shows two toilets at the cross-country skiing and biathlon center for next month's Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Although two toilets and only one stall like this are not common in Russia, social media users have responded by posting other pictures of toilets standing side by side. One said this was standard at Russian soccer stadiums. (AP Photo/Steve Rosenberg, BBC)

That's an improvement from the days when they just had two side-by-side pits with the floor marked where to put your feet. At least now the athletes can sit down instead of squatting.

This is what is known in Russia as a "couple's toilet". When my wife, who is Russian, and I visited a couple of years ago, we used the facilities often. We used to hold hands while dropping dookies together, right hands that is, as Tp is scarce.

In Soviet Russia, Toilet Sh%ts in you.

I would take that over this, which I ran across at Kuwait international. ImageUploadedByAlpineZone1390493936.718529.jpg

I have read that in much of China, this is the common toilet you will find. The question is, why? I mean, even in outhouses without plumbing you've got an elevated platform to sit on.

You would think it a common evolutionary human trait across all cultures to want to eliminate the potential for taking a dump on one's own feet.

and for the record I have gone Tuna style in the wild (though not while skiing). At least in that scenario you grab a tree and hang your ass out far away from your body and feet.

I'm guessing people in SW Asia don't like to put their ass where another persons ass has been? I don't know, I never understood it.

What I found funny was that the stall had an auto-"flush" sensor, you can see it on the wall. Technology is catching up!

I've heard that they think the squat is more conducive to clearing oneself out, as opposed to sitting.

I don't know about that though...

I posted this in the Funny Pics thread the other day. Apparently no one thought it was very funny there. Oh well.

So the Sochi Olympics are right around the corner yet AZ's Sochi Olympics thread ceased to exist months ago.

Huh?
:dontknow:

Whatever. I guess this is the best place to put this.

Double toilet at the biathalon center. Those clever Russians.

The bigger question is why AZ's original Sochi Olympics thread got shut down 5 months before the games begin.

That's what I've heard too. You learn to squat like that as a youngster, you'll build some great bump skiing muscles.

My husband works with techies, often visiting from China. They've found shoe/boot marks on toilet seats before in their office...hard to adapt to different cultures toileting procedures lmao.

PS - maybe if Americans had to squat like that we wouldn't be so fat?

We've found the same thing where I work, when there are international visitors.

I was thinking that too.
