In this month's Outside magazine, there's a short piece on Rainer Hertrick, who on July 27 will board a lift at Oregon's Timberline Ski Area for his 1,000th ski day in a row! He's 45, and has been "following winter from Colorado to Oregon to Argentina and Chile since November 1, 2003." His one requirement for a ski day to count is to "put on your skis and ski." He's been to 26 ski areas: 12 in North America and 14 in South America.

Wow.

I wish that I could afford to do that. That would be awesome! Unfortunately I have to work for a living.

even given the opportunity and money and not needing to work for a living, there is no way i would consider doing something like that. i think by day 274 or something, it would probably be slightly old. there is more to life than skiing. of course, he could have simply clicked in for a single run and spent a day doing something else... but i never want to have my skis dictate my life for me. i live to ski, not the other way around. so no jelously here.

I hate that guy. Not because he's doing waht I can't, but because he's doing what I know I never will.
