Some folks just like to get other opinions.

A surprising amount of good skiers know dick about the equipment they use.
This might not be the best analogy, but I guess I’m a pretty good driver, but I know dick about cars. That's why before I bought my Subie I kept buggin you Camp. :wink:

I am learning the hard way that it's better to buy long than short. It's a whole lot easier to gain weight to make your skis seem shorter than vice versa!

To the OP, 163 will be too short; don't do it. Like was already said, the wrong ski at the right price is never a good deal.

I think it is a personal preference. I have a pair of Atomic Metrons that are 150's. a pair of Rossi twin tips that are 160's, a pair of Atomic SL9's that are 160's and a pair of Rossi Sick Birds that are 178. I never skied on anything over 193 in the old days and I love my short skis. I am 5' 8" 195. The metrons are ice skates in the woods with quick turning radius and fun as hell on packed powder woods days. The twin tips at 160 are my all around skis and carry me on pow just fine and work well in the bumps. The SL9's devoure the hard pack and make those refreeze days a blast. The 178 Sick birds eat up the crud and deep Pow. So, quiver if you may as it is the only way to go!

Just my $.01 thinking, but I remember demoing the Monster 78 and found it a pretty exciting ski....not in slush though. Agree with all previous....go longer for a soft snow ski(ie Recon).

I'm going to spend the extra 150 on the 170's. It's a shame though, recons with bindings for 459 shipped is a smokind deal. Everyone else want close to 700.
