Well, at least this weather is happening now.

In January 1995 we had a massive thaw that lasted about 3-4 days...went from 10's and 20's to 50, 60, even 70 degrees F. Happened around MLK Weekend or so. Burke lost ALL of its snow in a matter of hours. NOT good. We went from about 2' to grass

Last Thanksgiving it was about 65 F in the NEK of VT and we had two THUNDERSTORMS come through, one with hail   So no skiing then.

what makes you think that won't happen again this year?

when i lived out west my season would start around halloween and end around the 4th of july. i would get in about 30 quality powder days.

now that i live on the wrong coast i'm lucky if it starts by thanksgiving and thankful it lasts until may 1. most of it on dirt, rock and ice.

i need to move.

We can only hope that it doesn't happen this season anymore.

come on there was really no change of that snow lasting... it was nice but I would rather have a warm up now than mid winter... I bet even if after that snow we had normal temps for the next few weeks most the snow would have been gone anyway.

The good thing about this is that the longer the colder air is held in Canada, the colder that aor gets. Once the dam finally breaks, all of it will spill down here (forecasted to happen late November-early December). It's what has happened the last 2 years and it's happening again. 2003 and 2004's early seasons sucked until Christmas and then they were almost perfect. It's happening again.

I knew all along that last week's magic was a fluke. I knew all along that November was gonna be warm and dry and here we are (sans today, it's raining). I posted a whole new topic saying don't expect much in November. It's supposed to cool down next weekend, but I doubt we'll see anyone open until Thanksgiving.

Enjoy the 50s and 60s while you can. In a month, temps will likely be in the 10s with no warmup in sight.

No offense, but is there really a decision to be made here? Family first for me.

Harsh, I'm sure she didn't mean that her kids don't come first.

Thank you for easing my mind O weather prophet. Can you pick football games too? If you can I'd appreciate knowing in the Giants will cover today.

If you hate the east then leave. We don't really want you here anyway. There are so many great things about living in the east that I would never want to leave. All I have to say is once you leave, let me know so I can say good riddance.

You obviously are new to New England, my friend.

It is absurd to assume that one could get lift accessed terrain in New England without interruption from October through May or June anymore. Kmart often did the October opening, but struggled until Mid/Late November. All my life I've lived in New England and this pattern has been pretty consistent--gradually cool down with SOME snow in Mid/Late October before rapid warm-up and final cool down and then finally snow. This is not something new. It's just that this year instead of a few inches things worked out to get a couple feet up high. Places made an exception to open, again, out of the norm for everyone.

As I have said now three times, it is best to get this warm weather NOW in early November than say in early February  which is the high season.

it's possible to ski october through july in the east
it just takes creativity and dedication. 30 powder days in the east coast isn't unheard of if you are flexible and ready to follow the powder. dirt, rock, and ice? where are you skiing man? i can give you a few hints if you are just unfamiliar with where to go around these parts for good trails and good snow. if you're up to it.....

My kids do come first - last week when there was 3 feet of snow at Killington, I went up for Friday and Saturday and came back Saturday night so I could attend the kids' games on Sunday. My husband stayed home and took care of taking them to practice on Saturday. BTW he got to be at Killington for opening day the previous two years while I stayed home and took care of the kids. This year it was my turn to be up there for opening day.

lol...it looks like you managed to memorize the farmer's almanac. congratulations. does anyone even take that thing seriously?

your memory seems to be a bit hazy. december 2003 was actually pretty good. in fact it was the snowiest december in vermont history. it was AFTER christmas that things went downhill. big thaw with several inches of rain thru early january. deep freeze with no snow for january and february. march started out rainy and warm then ended cold and snowy. and april was a total washout.

you are going to have to stay home with the kids for at least the next five or six years to make up for this year's open day to him

We've had 7 days in November and 2 of them had rain, with it pouring last night. How is that considered dry oh weather prophet? Maybe it's dry compared to 10 days of consecutive rain, but that's about it.
