As they do talk about back country skiing on their website, I'm sure a resort official could point you in the right direction. Other than that, I don't have much to add as I've only skied Bolton twice and neither situation were when conditions allowed explorering much off map.

It's a fun little mountain, but you may want to take a diversion for a day to Sugarbush or Stowe. I got bored of the trails there rather quickly

As these aren't too secret, I doubt they warrant a PM.8) Anyway, There are two good inbounds off trail/woods places that I know of. Between spillway and cobrass is an area called cobrass woods. It is home to devils playground and preacher(both on the map and worth checking out) There is also tons of unmarked woods in this area that are usually less tracked and nice. My first reccommendation it to take preacher, and keep for a look-out on the left of a small side trail with enough grade to keep you moving, but it's not steep/ just extreemly narrow. this runs perpendicular to the first section of preacher before this side trail makes a sharp right turn. Do not go fast aroud this corner your first time. Immeadietly after you make that turn there is a cliff that requires dropping. It is kinda a tough one but more than doable. If the cliff is too much you can throw your skis over it and slide down a small "chute" on its left. From there, it grinhs you out into an open section above cobrass, where you have the option to bail out. If you want to keep going into some nice tight wodds, you just keep right when you're at that opening. It is flat at the begining but it quicly becomes pretty steep depending on which line you take. The second area is off of the wilderness chair on the trail that takes a left of the chair. Peggy dow's? anyway once your on the trail, enjoy the the trail until you go around a sharp left turn. You'll notice on opening on the right right at the bend. Ony go there if you have tele or AT bindings. It's a x-country trail. It is very nice I might add. Stay close to the right side of this trail. Be on the lookout on the right for a small unmarked oppening shortly before the next major right turn. If you've started skiing down the mountain as opposed to accross it, you've probably gone too far. Anyway, this trail is not usually traveled by skiers, so you will most likely not see any ( or very few) tracks. It is awesome. Basically this is a mountain bike trail. It will spit you out near the groomer/ maintenence lot. Just ski or hike back to the wilderness lift. It's maybe 50 feet and well worth it. Good luck!
