Oh, I tried to do the 'nerd' thing and go to the best academic school I got into. I went to Skidmore for a year, which I had no business getting into. At that time, there were over eleven thousand applicants for a freshman class of 500 students. I had no car to get to the mountain and pretty much freaked about not being able to ski and dropped out to become a beach/ski bum. After two years of that, I went to UVM with hopes of becoming a 'professional' ski bum. Still debatable whether I'm a professional or not, but I did have a BLAST for four years skiing whenever I could at Stowe while at Groovy UV.

I applied early decision to UVM and got accepted two days after Christmas and I've had senior-itis ever since. I began UVM as a nerd and graduated as a hippie..lol...

First semester Freshman year I had no car on campus but I was able to bum rides for skiing but I was pissed that most people I could get rides from were putzes and we wouldn't get to skiing until 11:00AM or Noon on weekends...so I brought my car up 2nd semester and rented a parking spot at a local fraternity... and I had 4 classes on Tuesday and Thursdays and one evening class Mondays and Wednesday. I skied Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday....and my grades suffered and I had to cut back my skiing a bit in order to graduate in 4 years. I would always hit up Killington during springfinals...something that can't be done anymore.

i know that now but it was strange.

My first time in Burlington was in the summer of 1994..when I was still 14. That was the first time I knew about UVM and we stayed at the then Radison in Battery Street..and I remember cutting through the mall to get to Church Street and seeing lots of hippies. I rollerbladed along the waterfront and did the Gondola and Alpine slide at Stowe along with Rollerblading on the recreation path and eating at The Bagel. It was another year and a half until I would ski Stowe for the first time on a trip with my Dad. We spent two days skiing Sugarbush and two days skiing Stowe and although Sugarbush was awesome..Stowe was something else..between the fast top to bottom lifts...awesome top to bottom cruisers..the front four..and tree skiing..it was quite the skiers playground. I rode up the Gondola with some UVM students and I was so jealous that Stowe was their home mountain. At the time the Big Pass for Stowe/Sugarbush was around $300 for college students.

The Big Pass was only around for my freshman year of college. Then I had the Stowe only college pass for my final three years. My 2nd year of college Jay Peak/Sugarbush/and Mad River Glen joined together for the Huge pass. I should have bought that in addition to my Stowe pass because I spent close to the cost of that pass on lift tickets visiting those places with friends who had that pass. Now I'm a lowly Stowe tourist but I managed 14 ski days there the past two seasons combined..pretty steezy..:spread:

When were you at Groovy UV? Have you been back on campus at all recently? I want to see the new student center...it even has a bar..with a three beer limit..and a sushi bar..

One of the days I skied at Stowe back in April I thought about heading into Burlington to see a hip hop show and walk around the UVM campus for nostalgia but I ended up drinking to much in Stowe.
