It's stuff like this that makes me disbelieve that the inflation rate is 2-3% per year, as they always claim. Throw out cheap, Chinese made stuff from Walmart and almost everything costs double what it did fifteen years ago.

I read a story once about a guy who invented a time machine just so he could go back and get these great 10¢ hot dogs he remembered from when he was a kid.

Do you think 15-20 years from now people will be saying "remember when you could ski Stowe for only $85"

think about it, the industry has become significantly more capital intensive (snow-making/high speed lifts) and energy as well as liability costs have skyrocketed. I'd be interested in seeing the difference in prices from the late 90's when oil was cheap - I remember paying $0.99 at the pump only 7-8 years ago.

Wow, where'd you live, Dubai?

j/k here in CT it was probably around $1.20 or so. Funny thing is, when I started driving, 21 years ago, regular gas was $.80/gal. It didn't go up all that much until it broke the $2.00 barrier a few years ago.

Yeah i'm grinning a little here :my closest area Titus Mtn 1200 vert is still ONLY $24 / midweek and $ 30 on tweekend or holidays so its RETRO with a homespun atmosphere like a time warp in the BEST sense

The Mountain in the Nortern 'Dacks often creates what we call "the Titus Cloud" which generates really good snow most of the time. The offer GREAT grooming for those that like it . Other trails are left natural when pow flies so you can get your jollies on Eastern pow

Only downside is slow doubles and triples / no footrests, lacking in killer terrain and what they label black is really upper blue with maybe 1-2 legit single black twisty narrow trails with some degree of headwall

But hey 1200 vert for those prices its hard to beat !!

You know what Im gonna do
Im gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac Eldorado convertible
Hot pink, with whale skin hubcaps
And all leather cow interior
And big brown baby seal eyes for head lights (yeah)
And Im gonna drive in that baby at 115 miles per hour
Gettin' 1 mile per gallon,
Sucking down Quarter Pounder cheeseburgers from McDonalds
In the old fashioned non-biodegradable styrofoam containers
And when Im done sucking down those greeseball burgers
Im gonna wipe my mouth with the American flag
And then Im gonna toss the styrofoam containers right out the side
And there aint a goddamn thing anybody can do about it
You know why, because weve got the bombs, thats why
2 words, nuclear fucking weapons, OK?

Russia, Germany, Romania
They can have all the Democracy they want
They can have a big Democracy cake walk
Right through the middle of Tienemen Square
And it won't make a lick of difference
Because we got the bombs
Okay!?
John Wayne's not dead
He's frozen!
And as soon as we find a cure for cancer We're gonna thaw out "The Duke"
And he's gonna be pretty pissed off
You know why?
Have you ever taken a cold shower?
Well, multiply that by 15 million times
That's how pissed off "The Duke"'s gonna be
I'm gonna get "The Duke"
And John Cassavetes
And Lee Marvin
And Sam Peckinpah
And a case of whiskey
And drive down to Texas
And-

And would you believe that's in my MP3 player right now?

Yeah, I'm an asshole, and I'm proud.

Skiers, as a group have been allowed to become too fussy. Rocks in the trail, dirt, sticks, branches, glare ice, were all de-riguer mid-trail highlights 25 years ago. Fixing all that costs money.

I always had based damage. Now I can go an entire month, if I stay on the trails with no base damage.

Prices were "good", but lots of equipment quality stunk.

I think one of the main issues is...15+ yrs of Washington(since then) and no energy policies. The only policies I hear is...the news conference whine ..."No new taxes"...it'll cut into profits! ...While, instead of stimulating R & D thru an Project Apollo style effort towards energy self-sufficiency and alternative_R&D(ie inventive methods of power generation!), Washington stays with its big corporate buddies & jumps at the next target country for their oil. Doesn't look like Washington(regardless of Party) cares a whole lot about the future.....does it?
Washington's new line..."So we aren't going to overheat tomorrow, so why change...."
KingM, I think that kid is still stuck in court...smothered in legaleeze from Exxon, Mobil, Shell....and others..

This is why we ski at Saddleback to go back in time to circa 1978. Warren and I will miss the Kennebago T-bar and all the au natural skiing that it services.
